I'm looking at a Benq 17" FP71E+ LCD monitor and wondered if anyone had a Benq monitor and could comment on their kit or had this monitor specifically and could comment on it.

Thanks,

Mark

Edited to add the '+' to the model name to indicate it's the 8ms model.

Not familiar with the model you mention but have bought Benq for customers in the past and they have been fine. Nice bright, colourful picture, seemingly good build quality. I would not worry about buying them again.

Is it worth paying the extra for a 19" TFT even though the resolution is the same.

Any opinions?

Just looking now and it seems to me a big jump it outlay is needed to get higher resolutions in TFT screens, so 17" is probably the way to go.

I'm currently typing this on a 17" TFT running at 1280x1024 around two foot away from my head and its very comfortable, but if you were working further away perhaps something larger would be good.

I looked into this and while some 19" are only a bit more expensive you'd be pushed to get one with a decent response time. If you don't play games this may not be important to you.

I went from a 19" CRT (measured 18") to a 17" TFT and the clarifty makes up for the smaller size.

All imho of course.

My wife's a graphic designer and I will be using the monitor with a Macmini later on in the year as well. Gaming isn't a priority but video editing is so maybe a higher quality 17" is in order.

Hmmmm!?

I use a Dell 19" TFT and it's fine at 1280x1024 (native). I think that 1600x1200 is as high as you'd want to go on a 19" TFT. Response time on mine is 25ms. Is that good...? Contrast ratio is 600:1. It plays my RealFlight r/c simulator perfectly. I also use DVI connector. I think this helps a lot in terms of image quality.

I'd have no qualms running a 17" TFT at 1280x1024.

My dad's laptop has a Widescreen TFT that runs 1920x1200 native...!
