stabbing pains below the knee.

A bit of an odd one here.

Every now and again I get an excruciating pain in my left leg, below the knee/top of the shin.

It lasts for 30 seconds, a minute tops, but I'm in absolute agony for that time.

I'm pretty sure it's not shin splints as I understand those to be more of a constant pain.

Anyone had this themselves, or have an idea of what it might be?

Does it happen when moving or at rest?

I had a pain just below the knee cap during exercise (sometimes climbing the stairs or getting on the train) and it was Anterior Knee Pain - I used a Patellar Band for a few weeks and its been fine since

More often than not it will be whilst just sitting, watching tv or whatever.
