Investigating the history

A pal of mine has started restoring an old Mk1 escort reg number NGY 888L and is trying to find out a little about it. (where it started out life etc) and despite some furious googling i've not had much luck helping him. Can anyone point me towards a site or resource that could help?

DVLA? Send them a fiver and get a list of previous keepers.

If you no what part of the country it comes from you can get on to the local county council /arcives department which keep records ,for a small fee of about £12.00 you can find out the seller ,first buyer,and when first regestered..........

I know he purchased it in Rotherham but more than that I don't know

GY means it was first registered in London?

The list of Regs that I have says NGY was "For reregistration by Greater London", doesn't give any more detail, draw your own conclusion/guess!

That number sounds familiar to me (spent about 15 years living in/around the Sheffield area).

If it's one of the AVO/RS versions then I'd suggest contacting the AVO Owners Club as they have an excellent archive on the cars. If you want to PM me some details I can check for you.

MGY was London from August 1972 but I have no record of NGY. RGY was March 1973 so somewhere in the middle I guess.

According to DVLA it's a green 1100cc that was registered 5th October 1972 so I'm guessing that the AVO Club won't have any records on that one. Best course of action would be to fill in the V888 form and sent it along with your £5 to the DVLA and see what info they can turn up.
