Speed Awareness Workshop

Hi there,
Last month got my first dreaded NIP through. Spent a couple of weeks seeing if there was a way to keep my license clean (no fight on the claim - I know i was speeding but 36 in a 30) then sent the form off to accept the punishment. But instead of 3 points and £60, I've been offered the option of attending a 'Speed Awareness Workshop' instead. Got to pay (£71 I think) but no points! Result! It was the points that bugged me anyway. But this way, they get their cash and I keep my license clean.
But I'd never heard of this option or this 'workshop'. Anyone else had this and what's it like?!

colleaugue of mine went to one of these.
rules.........
You turn up wen they say. If you can't make the day - you get the points.
If you're 'disruptive' in class - you get the points
If you dissagree with them - you get the points.
You have to fill in a questionaire favourably at the end of the day session or - you get the points.
You get to see some sickening photos of people that have been smashed to pieces in high speed road crashes.
All the poeple who are there will have all done the exact same speed as you (eg 79 on a motorway) usually under the same circumstances (lovely clear dry quiet day)

Please tell me youre joking and you wouldn't get points for 79 on a motorway. I usually sit at 78 - 79 thinking that if the BiB were having a bad day I might get done for 80.
BiB and scammers are two totally different animals. BiB would most likely smile and bid you good day.... Scammers will prosecute you with the full power of the law

Regarding the speed awairness course, I think Somerset and Avon Scamera Pratnership have had this for a couple of years now, but only if you're caught doing 35 in a 30 IIRC. Anything else and you get the points. I must admit, if I was ever offered one of these courses I'd take that option! I would however turn up in the Tiger

You shouldnt, ACPO guidelines state +10%+2mph
So 79mph should see you just clear.
However, these are guidelines not rules...

TVP (und Kenneth Branangh the actor) went on this one - they have two - one at £100 for m/way offences und one at £70 for the 31-3 mph brigade. The fdearer one ist like Lancs - 6 hours und a drive, and the cheap one ist the DVD hazard aware stuff.
Lot of them are as TVP
BUT...
Lancs are now offering across speed range as they was hugest compliants at folks being invited for 32-35mph only und death rate increasing . They revised und now send stern letter for up to 10% plus 2 und the speed course mit cut off at 10% plus 4 across ranges of limits. Above this und you are looking at points.
Lancs course ist actually not that bad. I know what goes on because three of our reps got invites - 2 at 34 mph and one at 35 mph before the revised policy last year.
The course ist £85- (£100 -if you opt for Staffs course whish ist same) They do ask if you have preferred dat on the form - und if day allocated ist not OK - then our guy ended up paying £150 for another day.
It consisted of 3 hours learning hazard awareness tips - our guys were surprised that they did not plug speeding.
Then they split into twos und threes und went for little drive in Lancashire countryside around Leyland - on NSL roads und the local cafe for coffees und cakes.
They were told that they were not allowed to cheek the teacher (but they said there was no need - the guys (ADIs were very sympathetic) und they said the feed back form only asked them to say whether or not the day had been of value - so of course they said "yes" und they got a little green form saying they were OK drivers ...mit good understanding of COAST! Und they got this given to thembeofre the questionnaire thing as well.
So that ist basically what you should expect...according to the reps at firm I work at...

I wouldnt attend anything that had 'workshop' in the title, whatever it was. If they want to call it a 'lecture' or a 'bollocking' then that would be fine by me and I would go as an alternative to a fine and points. A 'workshop' is were cars get mended or where left wing idealists go to be indoctrinated or where actors go to learn how to be luvvies.
