That's £290 fitted BTW, probably £190 if you do it yourself
I can get a Bosch Car Battery (S4 Battery 110 (80Ah) 4 Year Guarantee) for less than £90.I haven't taken my battery out yet to see what the official battery choice of Porsche is but can that really be another £100 on top of the Bosch?
The car is still under OPC warranty.
This one......

I've just had this happen to me. My 61 plate Cayman Black Edition battery had a faulty cell. I phoned up my dealer who contacted Porsche Assist and a very nice AA man came round my house to test the battery. The battery failed the test.
I then went back to my dealer and told them to pick my car up to fix it. I told them that the battery was goosed and the AA man had tested it, but they wanted to test it themselves to make sure that it wasn't the car playing up. They did all the tests and came to the same conclusion. They then said I needed to pay £290...
I told them to think again. The battery hadn't even got me through one winter!!! I then phoned the OPC that sold me the car and complained. I'm lucky that the sales guy and I have a fairly decent relationship... The OPC then went halves with me, and I paid £150 fitted.
Not a bad result... I would go in to the OPC, be polite but firm. See how far you get!

Then you're stuffed. The OPC warranty dictates that you fit an OE one.
Bingo, and it's classed as consumable so if it fails it's not covered anyway... go figureNon-OEM batteries are ok to fit according to him (he had a car standing in the shop that had a Bosch battery in it and passed the Porsche approved warranty extension) and even non-N rated are ok as long as they have the same dimensions.
Have you tried plugging it into a cetek charger? Mine has helped me get another 6-12 months out of a battery. Also helps keep the battery happy if you're not using the car every day. There is a Porsche recommended one you can plug into the cigarette lighter but I'd suggest getting a bigger capacity one (without the OPC margin!!) from Amazon that you can connect straight to the battery. You can also use the cetek unit to make sure the car doesn't lose any settings when you finally do change the battery.
Only other point I'd make is if you you want to stick with the warranty programme - or one day sell the car to someone else who does - you might get some grief if you don't have the recommended battery, unfortunately.

EDIT: it does seem to vary quite a bit by centre.

That's strange... I asked my OPC's head service manager about this and he said "consumables do not affect warranty".

He's wrong, sort of, certainly as far as the battery is concerned. I know this as my used OPC Cayman refused to start the day after I collected it. The AA came out to fix it and the OPC agreed to fund a new battery. The AA chap only had one of their own batteries, far superior to the Porsche equivalent, but Porsche confirmed that unless one of their own units was fitted it would be impossible to renew the official warranty. Any failure linked to the battery could also not be covered. Non-OEM batteries are ok to fit according to him (he had a car standing in the shop that had a Bosch battery in it and passed the Porsche approved warranty extension) and even non-N rated are ok as long as they have the same dimensions.
Porsche were very good though and agreed a new battery would be fitted at their expense.
