Afternoon all,

I've been wearing contact lenses for 20 years, currently using Acuvue Moist daily disposables without any problem (discomfort etc).

However I had an eye test (inc. contact lense check) a few weeks ago and my prescription has changed slightly and the optician recommended moving to silicone lenses to let more air in.

Now I always buy my lenses on-line as it's move convenient and cheaper than going to the high street so I've been looking at Acuvue's silicone lenses and I've got some questions about their Oasys range.

From what I can see I can get 6 pairs which will last 6 weeks, you keep them in all of the time (7 days) or if you use solutions (???) you can get up to 2 weeks from each set.

I cannot imagine keeping my lenses in for a week, over night when drunk was bad enough... is this correct? And if I was to take them out what solution would I use with these?

There's potentially some cost saving to go for these but I need to understand the above while I'm whittling down on my current stock.

Help!

My son uses weekly lenses. Takes them out at night and keeps the in solution, bio something or other. They last him 2 weeks. He thinks he could go another week with them but doesn't want to risk damaging his eyes.

I have 2 weekly's, you only wear them up to 8 hours at a time though and don't sleep in them.

I use the Acuview Oasys ones - I keep them in for 7 days both day and night (and occasionally for longer than 7 days). I've been using them for three or four years now.

Sometimes they can get a bit blurry after a few days, but I then just use an eye drop (with the lenses still in place) or take them out, clean them and put them back in.

Not had any problems at all and don't really notice that I am wearing them. Every couple of months I will have a week of wearing glasses - not sure if this makes much of a difference but I figure it is worth giving my eyes a rest from time to time.

For the last month, I have tried some daily lenses just as a comparison. No real difference when they are in, but I cannot be bothered with messing around morning and evening so think I will stick with the Oasys lenses.

I wear monthlies and keep them in the majority of the time. No issues to speak of.

I've been using Acuvue Oasys 2-weeklys for several years now - I sleep in them occasionally with no ill effects other than dry eyes in the morning as you would expect. I use Boots all-in-one solution for cleaning and storing, and have never had any issues with that either.

I should also mention that before a recent trip to the Draa Valley in our land rover, I asked my optician about longer-wear lenses as i didn't want to be messing about in sandy/dusty environments, taking lenses in and out - and he told me that these can be used nonstop for a solid week.

Highly recommended, IMHO.

Another pleased Acuview Oasys user here, I take them out 1 night each week, or if my eyes get sore. Works great, very handy for me as I wear closed face helmets and do some roughish sport, including surfing where they seem to stay on pretty well, these contact lenses are ace.
