I'm looking at buying one of these:
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens

And have noticed the price differences are huge depending upon where it is bought from:
£209 from a place called ValueBasket
http://www.valuebasket.com/en_GB/Nikon-AF-S-DX-Nik...

£459 at Jessops
Price goes up and down around £200 virtually daily at Amazon.

I am presuming some of these (ValueBasket) are grey market, but what does this mean in terms of the item?
Is there a higher risk buying from VB which justifies the £250 price difference with Jessops?
And why does Amazon change it's prices for the same item by so much so regularly?

If you want to but import with confidence, go here http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/nikon-af-s-nikkor-18-...

UK shop, been around for 20 years, used them a couple of times and spent a fair chunk with them.

That site looks dodgy to me. They don't have a postal address listed under "contact us" and they can't even list their own phone number correctly.

Grey import Nikon lenses or cameras won't be covered by the UK manufacturers warranty, they will have to go back to the source country for repair/replacement.
If you buy from a decent grey importer (such as Hdew as mentioned) then they are often covered by the importers own warranty.
I also recommend Hdew, I bought my D810 from them. They do differ from other importers in that they bring stock into their UK office then ship out from there rather than being sent directly to your door from overseas. It means you have a UK contact and office to deal with (and collect from if you want to) and no potential customs issues.

Their reviews link doesn't seem to work - perhaps not surprising when you see them: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/valuebasket.com

Now if I understand it correctly, it is items such as the camera bodies themselves have warranties subject to their local region.

Otherwise - lenses particularly, Speedlights etc - are covered by a Worldwide Warranty, meaning any faults, repairs and servicing can be done anywhere in the world. Thus the idea of a "grey lens" is a bit misleading (unless it's a rare, but rather fetching, tropical gey like a canon lookalike).

But don't just take my word for it and do your own research - I may be wrong...
