Porsche bullies Aston into u-turn over GT3 name
Discussion
In true 'we are bigger than yow' style, Porsche have advised Aston Martin to not use the GT3 monicker for its new sports car, claiming it OWNS it. It is true that Porsche used it before the race series but Lotus used it before that!
Aston have backed down and have renamed the car GT12, stating that it would rather spend its money on making great cars than giving it to lawyers. How times have changed, Porsche of course bowed to Peugeot over the 901! Now, what about Bentley then, they are using it! But Bentley are VAG arent they? Politics eh, its everywhere.

Given that Peugeot objected to 901 based on them owning the rights to all car "names" of 3 digits with a zero in the middle I've never understood why they didn't stop Ferrari making the 308.
Italians would have told them to p**s off - set the mob on them or just bribed them!! thegoose said:

Italians would have told them to p**s off - set the mob on them or just bribed them!! This is what we expect from huge global companies. Paranoia about the competition and apparent desperation to maintain as close to a monopoly as you can manage - but Porsche should be more grown up about it.
Really, the phrase GT3 should be "yours" should it? Don't your cars sell themselves without such tactics?
It does surprise me that they feel threatened by a small British manufacturer.

A few years ago I actually wanted a new Peugeot hatchback. I took it on a test drive, and it seemed to do what I wanted. I was about to hand over the money when I just happened to glance at the V5 on the dealer's desk. Blow me, it said Ferrari! Well it turns out I nearly bought a Ferrari 308 instead of a Peugeot 308! A lucky escape there and a lesson not to trust car salesmen. Funny one with Peugeot. Some years ago they launched a truly hideous little car with sliding doors called a 1007!!. The film company that produce the Bond films went mad, truly mad! Peugeot being Peugeot instant response was to advise all customer facing staff to only refer to the car as One oh oh 7 , not as a One double O 7 . Problem solved! Car was a disaster of course unlike the films.

WHAT??? I've got 3 1007's in storage with delivery mileage on. My local Per-joe dealer assured me that it was going to be Bonds car in the new films... I've been taken in by a car saleman!
