American Car World magazine are proud to announce the dates for the 2005 Street Racer championship.

The dates for the series are as follows:
Saturday March 19th - S. Pod, SRS test and tune (no points)
Saturday April 2nd - Shakespeare County Raceway
Saturday May 14th - Shakespeare (ACW Nats)
Saturday July 2nd - Santa Pod
Saturday July 30th - Santa Pod (Mopar Nats)
Saturday September 3rd - Santa Pod
Sunday October 2nd - Shakespeare
The editor has negotiated with the venues that each round is run especially for the series, so no hideous queueing up for hours as can often be the case on RWYB days at the Pod. The ACW Nationals and Mopar Nationals are weekender events with other attractions and are always a great event for a petrolhead to be at! A full pictorial write up of each round appears in the magazine.

Firstly, you need to register for the championship, to do which go to the website for the series, www.ukstreetracers.co.uk
Registration costs a mere £10.

Check out the Forum section "2005 SRS form details" which lays out information as to how to enter each event. Although the magazine is aimed at American Cars, we'd love to see Pistonheads users at the events running their supercars too, if there is enough interest then a separate class could be run purely for road going supercars.

It is obvious that these regs are a Minimum Standard, so any driver who wants to use better quality safety equipment than we demand are free to do so.

Although cars run side by side, this is effectively a time trial series, and takes place on test days, not official race days, so does not have to comply with the full race regs that a race meeting would. Being an entry level, cheap, motorsport that is aimed at those who would like their first taste of motorsport, as much as it is aimed at the seasoned drag racers we have in the series, we try to keep unnecessary costs down to stay as inclusive as possible, hence the use of the word "recommended".

To be honest, an 11.00 second 1/4 would mean you are only travelling at approx 120-130mph across the finish line, which in a straight line is not exactly hard work for any car or driver. There is plenty of run off and fire crews positioned just after the finish line.
However, for the first time we had a car catch fire last year, so this is why we included some safety clothing regulations this year for the first time. The reason it wasn't included before is that most of the entrants wanted to avoid laying out cash on expensive items. However, after witnessing the fire at the last round in 2004, we all decided to include some kind of basic standard for this year.

I will be wearing my Sparco X-Light 3 layer and Arai GP5 whichever car I race, it's stupid not to right?

i think it was just the comment about "long sleeves and trousers" that made me laugh! Denim and Cotton have never been known for their ability to protect people in a fire!

i will try to get to one of the rounds though as it looks good fun....
