Hi chaps,

car away being having small job done & I'm contemplating getting a tom tom go tomorrow. What I want to know is.... will the unit fit between these 3 points:

the a pillar & the gap on the right hand side of the hump of the instrument cowel on the dashboard and also the depth of the dash to the windscreen? (hope that made sense) The idea being that if you are in the driving seat the unit is ahead of you & to your right.

dimensions are: 115mm wide by 91.5mm high by 57.5mm depth.

If you can help much appreciated, cheers.

Umm dunno and its raining so not going out at the mo. . .

However, I've put my origin b2 left of the steering wheel and right of the centre consol just below the dash - sticky pads onto leather. Its easy to read and quite inconspicuous.

Does this pic help to judge size:

Also should I be worried that my car does 13mph while stationary????

Originally I tucked the cable under the front of the windscreen, but I now know how to remove the correct bits of trim to put it under the top of the dash. Easy actually!! It can see thru plastic and glass not metal.

Dave

p.s. just looked at the depth of your thingy and its too deep for the place where I have my B2 (over the plastic thing to the left of the wheel)
Reckon it would fit to the right where you want it but would be pretty damn fugly

I have a Satnav fitted in place of the vent in the middle of the dash...worth considering. It looks fantastic and folds itself flat when not in use.

I'll try and get a picture later for you.

Depends where you are based but the guys who fitted this are in Acton I believe.

I can squeeze a Streetpilot III to the left of the instrument binnacle (and believe me, they are not small) - although it tries to take off on a sharp right hander

Garmin do a very small unit (called the Quest) which affixes to the windscreen with a suction clamp. Worth checking out. DAZ used mine in his 996 and was suitably impressed.

I use my SmartPhone with separate GPS receiver. I have 2 software packages, CoPilot and Tom Tom. Tom Tom is vastly better than CoPilot. The phone's really small and I just use a little phone holder that clips onto the demister vent vanes. The GPS receiver is rechargeable and seems to work quite happily when either in the glove box or door pocket. The phone was free on contract with Orange and Tom Tom is I think about £180 with receiver. Maybe a solution?

I use TomTom v3 on my O2 XDA II PDA/Phone. The XDA II sits in a standard car phone cradle off to the side of the Becker head unit. All the phone and Nav speech is then routed through the audio system. It's rock solid on corners and sounds fantastic through the Becker. When a navigation turn or Scamera warning comes along the Becker automatically mutes. Also gives me email and internet access in the car, good for finding a local restaurant and the nearest petrol station currently offering the cheapest fuel - dead handy during a forecourt price war! If you want a portable integrated solution then I think the XDA is the one to go for.

Italiano - That is an excellent piece of work !
Neat and tidy.
If you can post pics of it on display I would be grateful as it will give me an idea to put the system in my 3200!
thanks
