Exige S2 'ring lap times
Discussion
Test drove an Exige S2 on Sunday - absolutely fantastic machine...couldn't believe how much better it was than the S1, how much more involving and hardcore than a Boxster S (or my Z3M Roadster)...and decided to buy after about a minute nailing it down an A road
Tried a 996 C2 the other week and it bored me senseless after a 10min drive...no contest! But let's not mention practicality
One bit of info I can't find (just out of interest) - does anyone know what the best Nurburgring time for the S2 Exige is to date?

Iirc its about 8.28.

Hi mate.
I hope so but not for a good few months.
I split up with my girlfriend over Christmas so we are selling our house. I will have a fair bit of equity but need to buy somewhere else to live first before I blow it all on a new car.
I was thinking of buying a 340R and a sh1t heap for the shopping but I wouldnt get to use it that much all year round and parking for 2 cars will be an issue.
Basicall I need 1 car which can do the lot and that seems to be the Exige (I can borrow several other cars for lugging stuff & people if I need to)
I have also considered a Noble but I would be looking at a 2 yerar old GTO3 for around the same price as a new(ish) Exige. The Noble is a fantastic car and looks every inch the supercar but it would be more expensive to run and track (I intend doing quite a few track days this year).
Also my main driving roads are in and around the Brecon Beacons so the roads are generally tight and twisty = perfect for the Exige.
Also the Noble has no boot space at all so even the Exige looks practical in comparison.
Probably be the end of the summer before I know if I will be able to do it but if the car is as impressive on Saturday as everyone makes out my plans might go the way of the pear

Dan I have driven the GTO3R at Williams and it was very impressive but not as chuckable as the Exige.
The Exige does have a tiny boot nut at least it has one
Also I know of a few people who have gone from Nobles, 911's TVR's etc to Exiges as you can use more of the power more of the time. The opportunity to let loose in the higher gears in the other cars are few and far between and you will be in big trouble if you get caught.
With the Exige you can give it the full beans in most of the lower gears without getting into too much trouble.
Still love the Noble though

With the 111R/Exige you are still in deep shit at the top of 3rd
Ratios are a bit wide which was one of my issues with it. You are right though, you can feel you've taken it by the scruff of its neck in a way which is incompatible with license maintenance in faster cars. I had one of the 1st S2 Exige deposits in the country (from well before it was announced). Just didn't find it fast enough to justify the spend when my current wheels weren't much more.

I know what you mean, Skint isn't the word at the moment what with the Wedding etc, I'd bite the bullet and get the Exige it's a Wicked car! I found that Green one that you mentioned the other day it's at Wilson's of Romford well Chadwell Heath to be exact really nice spec to, I'm sure someone could get a cracking deal on that car as they've had it for a while as a demonstrator
I'm a little stuck on the one car only thing to, we really need a little run about so as soon as the Wedding's out the way I'll be in the market for a cheap motor(Great)

Know racingflix well - downloaded a stack of cool stuff already (my fav is the Nurburgring M3CSL lap - awesome!) - very cool site, but shame about the naff download times, and there are ENTIRELY too many tuned USA/Jap barges straight line drag racing on there...)
Surprised that there isn't any lap time info for S1 and 2 Exiges on the 'net (was out of interest, really...I reckon a well driven S2 Exige on a dry track could get towards 8:15 because it carries so much speed through corners...and a supercharged S2 (extra 50bhp, higher top end speed) Exige could dip under the magic 8min...any thoughts???
As I said, I was hooked after a couple of min behind the wheel...as for the practicality, who cares
my briefcase fits in the thing, and my other half's Prodrive Impreza is always an option for longer hauls...as for preserving the license, all I can say is that it's easy to keep the Exige in DEEPLY illegal territory...even on A roads
I was amazed at the speed the thing carried, and how well the whole experience 'clicked'. IMO the addition of ABS is a good thing - it's not for when you're really going for it, it's for the 10pm 30min long urban drive home from work in the winter when it's p*ssing down and you're on autopilot...and some prat decides to pull out/jump a red light etc. ABS in that situation is a clamshell-saver
Similarly the Toyota deal is a good one in my book - bombproof reliability HAS to be a good thing, and the performance is pretty awesome too. I don't care what anyone says...constant breakdowns are a total turnoff for me. The Toyota lump is tune-able as well, as I understand it, with a (Toyota) factory approved supercharger available. I reckon (hope) that Lotus will release a kit sometime late this year or in 2006, and support retro-fit options.
I had pretty much made up my mind to go for a CSL, but driving the thing (admittedly only once) didn't REALLY do it for me (not enough to shell out 45k anyway!). Similar for the 996 C2 (CSL was way better than the 911 for me!)...but the Exige took the biscuit. Big smile after half a mile at the wheel, and game over!
Colour? That metallic black with the gold fleck in it, with the cooling intakes painted too...and of course a sport exhaust...and the pipercross induction kit...and the Touring pack (cop out I know...but my shoulders don't fit in the performance pack seats and I like to be cold when I drive!)
Anyone have any info/views on tuning options (especially the supercharger!)???
Any other sites with decent racing/track vids out there???

The word on SELOC is that the supercharger will be confirmed at the end of this month. It will also be available to existing Exige owners. Should be good for just shy of 250BHP.
Dan
The Exige comes with only 3 colours as standard - Ardent red, Saffron Yelloy or Old English White.
Saffron Yellow has to be the choice our of those. There were picks on SELOC of thre Ardent Red (not sure - looks ok on the 111R though) and the white (no way!)
The others available are black, blue and the best 2 Krypton Green and Chrome Orange
There is a very nice Yellow one advertised on here
