I'm currently doing some tidying up under the bonnet on my 400se,and one of the things I'm trying to correct is the routing of the top hose from the thermostat housing. On mine it was routed up and over the distributor. Many of the other cars I have seen have a stainless steel pipe over the top of the water pump conected at each end with rubber hoses. The only problem I can see with this on mine is that the outlet on the thermostat is angle towards the distributor therefore limiting the position of this hose. Is this the same on all cars, or has mine been changed at some stage ? Any thoughts / pictures would be appreciated.

It does sound like you have a different 'elbow' on there. Mine's angled to the right to clear the distributor.

Some (all ?) later cars have the elbow facing over the dizzy connecting to a 45 or 90 flex elbow (35mm to 39mm) which connects to a steel tube (with fill cap) which goes to the NS wing and then turns 90 along to the rad connecting with a slight offset or straight 35mm flex.
The above sounds like your setup.
Sorry I'm away at the moment so can't send pics.
