Fiberglass help

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place but thought I would ask....I have a fiberglass bonnet that I put a hole in about 2ft across by 1ft to let hot air out. I now want to glass it back in. I still have the original piece apart from a few nibbles out of the corners where I put the dremel in to cut.

Should I just lay fiberglass on the back then fill the front?? (is so what products)

No idea regarding the steps taken with fiberglass but hopefully someone can help.

I learn quick and trying to do as much on the car as I can myself

Basically yes you can do that but you need to prepare the rear of the panel and patch carefully first.

Taper the joining edges from about 2" away from the join and key a large area around the joining edges. 6" all round should do.

Use strips of alloy or GRP and self tapping screws to locate the patch as flush and level as you possibly can then tpe over the gaps on the outside so resin doesn't run through.

Laminate CSM and lay up resin from the rear of the bonnet until you are happy with the thickness.

If you did it all carefully you should only have a reasonable amount of filling to do.

I'm sure I've missed some details but others will probably fill them in for me.

Neal as above but you need to taper edges on topside also and glass fibre top with strips of CSM I then use gf tissue for the final layer then just a veneer of filler
