Had my first “proper” go in my 996 turbo today at Curborough. On Kumho V70’s and with the way my car is set up, the cornering forces are very impressive.
Only “issue” I have is that the standard Sports seat and seat belt does not hold me in enough, I have to use the steering wheel to help hold me in place which is not ideal!!

I do not really want to start messing with the interior, but am considering either an easily removable 3 point full harness or maybe a more supportive seat that would fit on the runners. I would appreciate anyone with any experience with this for ideas / solutions, without spending an arm and a leg.

Would any of you know that like most older Porsches, are there any spare threaded screw points in the chassis to fit harness eye bolts to?

I have recently had Bob Watson who I have known since the mid 80’s fit a Wavetrack LSD to my car, now it has the traction it deserves, and NO understeer. The “shove” out of corners now, especially in 2nd is terrific, no time lost with the PSM kicking in or spinning up an inside rear.
Power oversteer is nice and progressive with No vices. Like all 911’ neat and tidy is best but it’s nice to know this one is on your side,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, mostly!

Cheers.

996 GT3 seats will fit, but are expensive. You'll also lose the electric adjustment on the standard seats.

Google Brey Krause for race harness mounts.I used one on my 996TT a few years ago and they are pricey but brilliant. Totally demountable so only fitted during track days

I just fitted one of these http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/harnesses...

Removed the seat and where the safety belt clip is bolted, removed the bolt and replaced with the eye bolt that comes with the Harness, there is just enough room for the seat to slide ok.
The other side seat belt bolt I also easily replaced with the other eye bolt in the kit, thus keeping all the standard seat belts in situ.
The rear un-clipable part just bolts to the existing rear seat belt mounts, all in all an easy install. When the rear seat cushion is placed back it covers almost all.
Only issue I had was due to the seat design, the shoulder belts tend to slide off the seat, this I remedied by nut-serting a thin easily removable clip that the belts slide through either side on the seat backs right next to where the leather part meets the backing just above my shoulders, covered it with soft fluffy Velcro, and the seat belts now stay in situ.
Appears to hold me in place nice and firmly, will find out soon enough at Prescott on 25th/26th.
As I am in the road going class, standard belts will suffice, so this is a nice little bonus to hold me in smile

Thanks again for all your help.

Either get the Design 911 copy GT3 style bucket seats at £390 each or buy a £10 CG Lock off ebay. CG Lock clamps the seat belt and holds you into the seat better.

+1 for a cg lock device. I find the standard seats in our 997 Carrera S somewhat less than supportive on track. Cg lock is quick and simple to fit and although no substitute for a good bucket seat and harness, they are a really good compromise for minimal outlay.
