Console removal

I have just partly removed my centre console. Took the gear knob and handbrake cover off, removed the screws and then got stumped. I have removed the screws that hold the door release mechanism but the cables are threaded through the console so I cant lift it off. There is no way the cables will disconnect as the cables go through a little bar on the switch and are retained by two fixed nipples. On the door end the cables have screw on nipples so I could disconnect them and pull the inner cables out but am worried they would be difficult to thread back again. I could also cut the nipples off at the knob end and then replace them with screw on nipples so I could pull the cables free. Have I missed something obvious or has anyone else been here before.It looks as though someone has been under here before as the switch has been packed up with a couple of nuts to make it the right height and a make shift looking bracket is doing something or maybe nothing.

Hang on a mo, if you are trying to remove the centre console, take the 2 screws out at the furthest point nearest the engine side of the car, then pull out the little flap at the back and there will be 1 or 2 screws in there. Take those out and then with a few firm wallops the centre console will lift out if it's got stuck to the two outer bolsters over time. Then the two outer bolsters slide out backwards.
There is no need to cut bits off of damage the car, the bracket you mention is how your car rolled out of the factory years ago.

The two bolsters are stuck solid, so much so I thought it was all one piece. Well it is one piece as I have lifted it up as one. Thanks QBee, will ring you when I've had another go.

On my car you have to remove the door knob because it won't fit through the leather gator under it. There is a very small grub screw (2.5 mm hex from memory)in the front lower part of the door knob. Slow job turning this little grub one flat at a time till it's backed off enough to slide the knob off.

Something blunt gently pushed in along the seem of the two separate panels will break the seal. A bit of hot water used to work really well when I was pulling these cars apart a few years ago. Go steady and it will come apart. Go rough and it'll rip!

What are you trying to get at?

Just found the key I use looks like its around 1.4 mm but a little bit lose in the grub so maybe it should be 1/16" or so.
I cut the key and slipped a piece of small hose on to make removal easier.

Thanks to every one for the advice its now safely apart and no damage. The reason I took it apart is to replace the gaiters and find out why one of the bolsters is loose. Turns out the bracket had come undone so the bolster was slipping down. Its off to the trimmer tuesday and then put it back together next week. Looking forward to fitting the golf ball with the new gaiter on, not.
