Carpets

I see that some cars have neatly fitted interior carpets.

Is there a template for this anywhere or is it a case of me having to befuddle my own way with cardboard, scissors and some string?

My trimmer did mine but I think the Factory might do something too.

I made templates from brown packing paper. Thick enough to be durable, thin enough to easily make templates. Doesn't take long.

This is what I did also - then I. sent them away and had them made with yellow piping to match the colour of the car.

I assume you mean floor carpets? They come from the factory and only need minimal cutting and sticking it is one of the easier jobs I found

Yes - but builders might choose to have better quality carpets or different colours or trimming etc., and in this case you can find places to send a template and have them made.

Yes, I did just mean the floor (hadn't actually thought about the other bits)
The rear bulkhead behind the seats is already carpeted in mine and I can't decide whether I prefer the metal finish or the carpet on the floor.

Just spoken to the factory and the price seems reasonable and if as you say it is an easy job then I think I will probably go with that.... or risk getting stuck upside down somewhere under the dash with my paper and scissors

Marine carpet. Non wooly, no smelly when wet. Cut a template, get it bound. Not that expensive and worth it over the smell of dirty sheep permeating the cabin. Man made fibres.

Good idea. I'll think of that when I get to finishing the interior.

I should have mentioned 'don't use wool' due to damp dog effect. Glad I'm not alone with that thought.

Mine are not stuck down but I used lots of Velcro so they can be removed for cleaning if necessary.
I used strips aligned seat to pedals where diver/passenger need to slide in/walk out.

good idea on the velcro! My carpet is currently one piece under the seats too so I'll probably use velcro and some black marine carpet to make three sections 2 under the seats and one for the frontal area, leaving the pedal box untouched.... Anyone have a link to a good supplier of marine carpet? A quick google shows most of it is available in 1ft wide sections or its from the states!

Marine carpet is the choice, however Velcro often can't decide to leave both sides on the car or on the carpet - when insulation is used snaps are a good idea.
Boats often use snaps which can prevent gathering and keep a tight appearance. Especially near a pedal box. Cars that require some effort, getting in/out would benefit from some stainless snaps.

Carpet for floor and bullkead with adhesive about £175 from factory looks good quality

Sorry for asking but what are snaps? I assume some type of fixture.

I used snaps/grommets when my carpet rolled into my pedal box, hasn't moved since.
The velcro glue went gummy due to heat and failed. Snaps can be riveted or screwed in.
