Hi - Have just set up a stocks and shares ISA for this tax year. Looking to fund it with the few hundred quid a month I have coming out of other investments. Any recommendations for a fund manager/fund? Not looking for a crazy return as the funded amount isn't exactly a lot! just something better then the 0.25% return Halifax offer on my savings!

Cheers

I use Vanguard Lifestrategy (80), they're passive and cheap and offer a pretty good return:

Big question is, what's your attitude to risk? Are you a safe bets kind of guy, or a mad speculator? Whats your time to invest like? are you looking at 5 years, 10? 15?

There is a ton of information on the site that's worth sitting down and having a sift through. I'm quite keen on trackers, as they give a good return through reinvesting the dividends. I also like certain funds, Neil Woodford has done well by me both where he was before and as an independent now with his own fund. Neptune UK Mid cap has been a solid hit over the last few years as well, same as CF Lindsell train UK equity.

None of the above should be taken as advice, as it's not, it's just one blokes experiences over time. I'm into the long term, 20 years view. If you are, you'll be fine.

See the other thread on the pros and cons of HL. Some useful info in that one.

So this thread died a death as i didnt respond. I have some experience of buying and selling stocks and have a small portfolio of bluechip companies (apple etc) that is doing quite well - but nothing major.

So i have started a DD paying in £300 a month. I have put a few pounds into their new Asian emerging markets fund to test the water - i have a moderate attitude to risk, I am not in any need for the money and looking to leave this for 10 years. The least amount of effort is best for me, i don't want to have to keep logging in and buying more into funds each month.

I think I need to sit down and spend some time looking at automated investment/top up to funds.

Bored Stupid - I have seen you previously state you actively invest with hargreaves landsdown - do you use any of their specific funds?

Good plan on the Asian fund. Whats not to like about 2.06% fee's on assets per annum! (Fund fee, plus 0.45% platform fee)

Over 10 years you can expect to LOSE over 30% of any gains the fund makes.

Personally Id take an Investment trust or ETF over an OEIC, especially on H&L
Other providers may alter the maths.

I sense sarcasm....I will of course do some research. Nevertheless, I am happy to take greater risks So will have a look around.

Edited to add I had cancelled the pending order on the Asia fund earlier to do more reading as I was rushing between meetings smile
