Marvel Contest of Champions

Downloaded and played through the first few quests. I have Spiderman and Wolverine on my roster. Seems an interesting game so far but I'm not sure how long it will hold my interest as it's not very deep but then that's a problem I find with most mobile games.
If you get in to an alliance, there are alliance quests and wars, also the arena. As well as daily quests 3 day events, 7 day events. you have to get a few champs first but that wont take long. If you get in to it, it will eat up hours. I have been playing for about 18 months now, haven't spent a penny on the game and I have fully maxed champs. Here is my roster.

Played this a bit over the weekend. There is a lot of upgrading stuff that I don't seem to understand.
So a player has a level which you can rank up using ISO's plus they have a star rating. How do you rank up star ratings? What are masteries? What do the different coloured ISO's do? Is it worth hanging onto 1 star characters as they seem a lot weaker than 2-3 star ones?
Lot's of confusing stuff that isn't really properly explained.
It is quite a fun little game though.

Basically there are 5 grades of champs. 1 to 5 star. these never change, higher the star rating then better the champ. you can also awaken these champs. by opening a crystal with the same champ their stars will change from yellow to silver, this will unlock a special ability, this is ultimately what you want from each champ.
6 types of champs
red is skill
yellow is mutant
light blue is cosmic
dark blue is tech
green is science
pink is mystic
call have pros and cons when fighting each other.
the coloured isos match those above, which if out extra when you level up.
you require catalysts to upgrade to a new rank.
Masteries are enhancements to your overall game, i.e. adding 5% health to all champs.
I would never get rid of any champs as it will increase your overall hero rating but 1 stars are the lowest in the game and I wouldnt worry about them. focus on 2star and 3 stars to start with.

Cheers that makes more sense now. 6 types of champs

I sold a few no star characters to make some room, is that wrong? Also what's your hero rating?

Your hero rating is the combined figure of all your champs, its doesnt mean anything really. Mine for instance is 120k when you try to move in to an alliance a lot be people look at that as its a good indication of what sort of champs you have. 1 stars are pathetic and not worth the hassle really.
On another note your masteries will completely change your game, choose wisely.
