Hi all,

I originally posted this in Jobs & Employment Matters, but it seems a little quiet in there so apologies for duplication! frown

Could anyone help with the following?

Just about to register as self-employed with HMRC and just had a question about applying for Small Earnings Exception.

I'm employed full-time, but have set up a little side line business which is expected to make no more than about £3000 in it's first year so was going to apply for SEE.

As I pay NI through my full-time job, are there any issues/disadvantages with not paying NI through my self-employment also?

Anything else I need to be cautious of?

Oh, and this is the form I was looking at completing...

https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/shortforms/form/CWF1ST?...

Hope that makes sense and thanks in advance! smile

Cheers

It looks like you qualify for the SEE so I would go ahead and make the application. As you are already paying Class 1 through your employment, your contributions record will not be affected in any way.

This is exactly what I do - I work full time, but have a little bit of consultancy work I do in my free time.

Basically, I support the IT for a couple of friends who have small businesses.
