Has anyone had this done? Ive seen a David Noton image blown to up 100cm x 50cm (I think that was the size) on canvas, printed digitally using Giclee printing. The colours were gorgeous and the effect was really nice - slightly mottled like oil paints.

I was considering having this image of mine produced like this:

www.davidhambly.co.uk/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=Nature&id=shearwater1_s

I was in the shop getting a frame for that shot and the lady in there suggested that this shot may lend itself quite well - what do you guys think? She wanted £60 for doing it, that was on canvas, ready to mount directly onto the wall.

Comments?

You can but try and see. A lady at work had a portrait photo of her son put on canvas and stretched onto a frame from a major high street dealer for about £50, think the size was about 12x10. It did look good. You lose some detail though so it doesn't work for everything.

Dave,
There was a long thread on here a couple of weeks ago about Giclee printing, do a search and see if you can find it.

Martin.

Certain Jessops stores are offering canvas printing, and from what I remember the prices are pretty reasonable.

Giclee is just a posh term used for digital art printing - more specifically high quality, digitally produced, fine art print. It's a generic term, first used by one of the pioneers of digital printing back in the early 90's, although the "Giclee Printers Association" classifies a print as "Tru Giclee" if it complies with a set of standards. See here for more details.

Interesting fact: One of the pioneers of digital printing was Graham Nash, of the band Crosby, Stills and Nash!

you can probably tell I've been reading up on digital printing recently!

nice site dave. dont know if i'm missing it, but it would be nice to be able to see the settings on your camera for the photos on your website, maybe as an additional option window, just a thought. nice pics, love the calmness of the water.

Thanks guys, ill read the other thread

Cliff> Ive added info like camera, lens, etc but that shot and the one next to it (in the gallery) were both taken with a polariser and a 0.6 Soft ND Grad filter. The exposure was 30 seconds @ f22.
