This morning I received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for doing 43 in a 30.

The letter states:

"The maximum fine in such cases could be £1000 and the offence carries a 6 point endorsement"

The fine seems fair but 6 points seems excessive. Am I reading this correctly. it is 6 points or is this the maximum? What are the chances or being less than 6 points?

They show the maximums. Declare the driver and you should receive a conditional offer - 3 points and I believe £100 fine. Take it if guilty - do not go to court to make a point! I believe if you go to court it won't be 3 points and may well be 6 as the guidelines are different once you go there.

You think £1000 is fair? Then go to court and request it specifically as you think it fair.

You will get 3 points and a £100 fine.Does your paperwork say anything about a speed awareness course but your speed may be a bit to high to have the opportunity of a SAC.

When I had NIP last year it was quite confusing as there were different colours and it seamed that I could not have a SAC so rang them and they said yes I can do a SAC so thats what I did.I was doing 80 on a 70 DC.

ACPO guidelines are SAC up to 39 and summons at 50, so I expect you'll get a fixed penalty offer.

Court can issue between 3 and 6 points and a fine up to the £1000 maximum (though it's usually a week's take home pay). Fixed penalty is always a better choice!

Limit +10% +9mph is the usual threshold for speed awareness qualification.

Either he's loaded or worryingly this is what your average member of the public is now starting to think.

OP, you could try my method. 41 in a 30.

Return the NIP naming the driver. Wait for the fixed penalty to arrive, look at it and say 'I'll deal with this later'.

Put it in amongst some other paperwork and forget about it. Wait 6 weeks to 3 months then pick it up, look at it again and then panic slightly.

Ring the clerk of the court or whatever they call them in England, apologise and say can I still pay this?

They'll say no, it's gone for consideration for prosecution.

Sit back and wait.

Nothing happens saving 3 points and 60 then, 100 now. Bob's your undertaker.

This is what actually happened to me. DO NOT DO THIS!
