Recently did a trip to London and back. Nice steady return journey down the M1/M25 to Heathrow, mostly cruising at around 75mph (and a bit too much 50pmh through all the road works' average speed cameras). I didn't think to reset the trip counters before I left, but I did brim the tank before and again upon my return, after which I saw the 505 mile range reading for the first time ever.

So the question is, with my cam'd TVS2300 WP set-up, is the range accurate?

Answer = No

350 miles travelled
63.65 litres of Shell's finest V-power Nitro+
= 25mpg (imperial gallons)

Based on these figures and taking the 73 litre tank size as stated in the book gives a range of 401 miles.

I note that Ringram has previously managed to get 80 litres in a tank from completely empty, this works out at 440 miles range.

One might argue that the figures on the dash might be more accurate if the engine wasn't modified, but even with my previous VXR8 with it's unmodified LS3, the best range I ever got from a similar journey was around 420 miles from a brimmed tank.

Paul.

I don't know your ECU, but there's a fuel scaler for economy/range on LS1B. I don't understand it though...I scaled it by new injector/old injector and got a scary number! It was closer before I fiddled with it! Maybe only required if you're forcing tables to do things they shouldn't (FI)?

If the tables haven't been changed, then no, it won't be accurate, as the larger injectors fitted with the supercharger will be delivering more petrol per squirt than the car thinks they're giving.

If you're running a different state of tune, different map and different (larger) injectors (don't know if you are?) then the MPG and MPG-related readings on your computer may well be woefully inaccurate.

It's possible. 505 divide by 16 is 31.56mpg.

On the 50mph section, mines doing 35mpg ave. At 75 (why?) it'll do less, say 28-30mpg.

Does it really matter? It's the Smiles per hour that really count :-)

I can understand the perversity of seeing what you can get. I managed about 34mpg in our VE Ute once, which would easily manage the suggested range. Not the reason why I bought it, but still a fun exercise when there are cameras everywhere nowadays.

If I had a Prius, I'd be seeing how quickly I could get through a tankful. hehe

We had a nissan micra once. Damn thing would not do less than 50 mpg however I drove it. Sold it, too economical.

Stop.
Sorry guys, 'Mumsnet' and 'Hypermiler Doggers appreciation society' are over there.

The only MPG-related threads here should be like this:
