Turn Indicators Don't Work
Discussion
Thaonly really leaves the indicator (turn signal) switch on the column, the associated multi-way connector it's attached to and the flasher unit itself!
Cars of that era tended to have separate flasher units for the turn sigs and hazards, whereas modern cars use an integrated unit that can handle both functions.
On the old system, usually if a flasher unit fails it does so in a way that leaves the lamps pernmanently lit, but as you Americans say: your mileage may vary

I'm not an expert on electrics but when my sidelights started to flash when I operated the indicator switch I found that the earth to each light unit was not working.
I removed each sidelight/indicator unit - the earth should be a soldered joint on the back of the metal casing. One of mine was detached completely and the other was very corroded. I removed them, changed the electrical connector for a round terminal and used a small nut and bolt (a self tapper would have been just as good)
Both working fine now
