Good call. They're more fun being driven than gathering dust.

Is she going to be on the road, track or both?

I like the way the wheels fill the rear arches.

Best regards,
Bernard.

The Vixen is purely for fun these days, though I might be tempted by the odd "demonstration run" at our local hillclimb. Geoff

Very nice. What engine is that and how many horses? I'm curious how it would compare with my tuned Duratec motor.

Cheers Simon

Its a 2.0 Zetec with ZX6R Bike Carbs and about 175hp Simon. Its a generation removed from the Duratec but a lot cheaper and more simple to install with easier exhaust fabrication and a bolt in reversible swap. It even uses the existing chassis mounts.
This car was always going to be built as a daily driver with torque and tractability in mind rather than ultimate power. That said it also runs a Close ratio type 9 with long first and a Cosworth LSD. It'll be more than quick enough for the old fella.

Lovely indeed and I should think plenty of power. My 2.3 Duratec is an amazing engine but I find it hard to utilise all the power under normal circumstances. You are right about the exhaust but I'm hoping to fit a custom stainless manifold soon.

Good luck with the rest of the work, I look forward to seeing it on the road.

Hi Neil,
is that collar/mount for the steering column a part that I can buy, or is it something you had fabricated?

Cheers - Simon

A little of Both.

http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/product_detail.ph...

This is similar, cannot remember if this was the supplier.. from the bay. We actually bored out the inner bearing to the required diameter which was painful to listen too being a hardened bearing surface…It eventually scratched and squealed it to size,
Try e-bay.

"pressed bearing housing"

Brilliant - thanks!

Just waiting for my steering column bits to be finished at the powdercoaters and then I can measure and order an appropriate size.
Much more professional looking than a couple of self tappers..

You don't really need the bearing housing if you are modifying the support for the column, It just looks nice and allows you to play about with alignment without having to be bang on with the through bulkhead support tube and plate.
if you look closely at the vixen you will see that it has a support structure behind the dash on the bulkhead and also it is a split column with centre bearing support at the front chassis / wishbone mount.
I felt that this was a better solution to the OEM bent metal bracket screwed to the ply dash and secured via a jubilee clip?? smile
