Battery cut off switch or Immobilser ??

Hi

I would appreciate some assistance as I have an annoying fault that is driving me mad. When I try to start my 2006 V8 Vantage it sometimes just clicks as I press the starter button and effectively trips the battery switch.

Some times I can reset this from behind the seat and it fires. Sometimes I have to reset the switch in the boot and then reset the switch behind the seat and it fires.

The battery is always on a charger when not being used and when it does fire it turns over quickly. It seems to be worse if I stop and lock the car but it is not only when it is locked. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will start, sometimes it fires normally. I have checked for any fault codes and there is nothing logged.

Any suggestions gratefully received as I am reluctant to just give myself up to the local main dealer as I have little faith in them to deal with this cost effectively.

That sounds very much like a starter motor fault, tripping the switch through excessive current draw.

Spoke to local main dealer who wanted to spend up to 2 hours on their diagnostic machine to try to sort the problem.

Instead decided to call a local Specialist who had been recomended to me, a one man ex main dealer trained technician called called William Khoo trading as AMTech (07868 848380) who came out to my house.

After 15 minutes and various electrical tests, he identified it as a faulty Battery Disconnect Switch located behind the drivers seat. Once I had ordered one in from the dealer, he popped back to my house and fitted it. Problem now sorted and at a reasonable cost, probably less than the 2 hours diagnostics at the main dealer !!

I have no connection to this chap, but what an excellent service, I will be using him again !!
