Morning all, I know there are probably loads of threads similar in the general forum, but though I would ask if anyone uses a jack similar to this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-TON-LOW-PROFILE-ALUM...

It's a very good price but I know perfectly well that (generally) you get what you pay for, and would rather spend more and have a jack that lasts for a long time than a novelty item.

The problem I find is that a million people sell jacks that look the same but branded differently, so it is hard to know which ones are good and which are knock-offs!

No need for anything more that a couple of tonnes, anyone have any good suggestions?

Not sure if they still sell them, but Costco used to sell the Arcan low entry jacks (I have one) and they are good value for money.

Looks similar! Although the free axle stands of the other one makes it more tempting.

I've heard that the very best is the Sealey one (steel so heavier but not sure why a lightweight car jack is important for the workshop anyway...)

It is a lot dearer but very fast and I can see it lasting a very long time!

Depends how important aluminium/lightweight is to you. I procrastinated for a long time before deciding that I just didn't trust them. There's no facts or evidence behind this, just the old fashioned opinion that big heavy tools are better than small light tools.

I bought a Sealey 2500LE. It is very heavy but makes getting my car to the top of the axle stands easy. I only ever move it a few metres across the garage/drive though. If I regularly lifted it into a boot I would have bought something else.

I got this one https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details...

Its bigger than most and gets right under the centre of the car. Well worth the money, I've had the ali cheaper ones before and they never lasted.

SGS Engineering do a range of low profile trolley jacks, both steel & aluminium, also do packages with axle stands.

I've had one of these for about 8 years:

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details...

and one of these for about 2 years:

The first is lightweight and fine for occasional use, the second is much heavier, far more robust and lifts higher too.

I like the look of SGS Engineering, but to get right under the Tuscan to the centre rails I'd like something without the "hump" after the low nose which a lot seem to have. The Clark one that Tangoed posted looks like the best option to me, I hate supporting Machine Mart but it does seem like the best option!

I have been looking too for the ability to lift the Tuscan from the centre at the front and agree theMachine Mart one looks the best option

I've got one of these, although cheaper online.

Great height for the TVR and the smart and lifts my Touareg no problem.

Well I just went and bought this jack from machine mart, and it reaches the chassis rails from the side of the car without even trying! Very happy so far- if it works reliably over the next few years I'd recommend it (but most likely will not remember to report back on this topic in 2025!!)
