hi wondering if anyone can help with this, I had hids on the cerb and the lights would flicker and switch off, only after switching on and off over a few minutes they would stay on. removed the hids thinking that it would solve it but the problem persists with normal bulbs, any ideas?

Do the dash lights flicker or pulse as well?

If they are then test the voltage from the alternator, both at just over tick over, should be around 13.8 volts and at higher revs, should also be 13.8 volts.

If reading higher or fluctuating fit on e of these to your alternator as the voltage regulator has failed or is in the process of doing so and this is a lot cheaper and easier than changing the whole unit.

VOLTAGE REGULATOR FOR FIAT MARELLI LUCAS FORD DENSO ROVER PERKINS 138789

They are availible from Ebay for £12 or so.

thanks for that I ll check but I had that replaced and it didn't solve it.

the interior lights do pulse and when I rev the car the headlight brightness does increase, so it appears like an alternator issue but everything else is ok.

strange thing is that when the lights flicker, and I turn on and off a few times (quite a few), they then stay on

You need to check the supply see what voltage the lights are getting.

Things to look for
Corroded battery supply, big fuse, lighting box supply & light feed.

thanks will do had the battery terminals and fuse done, but no change, will check control box as this has burned out before and doesn't look too clever, could it be the switch also?
