For some time now Scamera installations are judged purely on their impact on 'speeding' and not on reducing KSI. Its brilliant in terms of propaganda for the parasites :

http://www.nottinghampost.com/Treble-pound-500-000...

It's PERFECT when the number detected goes up due to the happy coincidence that more cash can be made... Although I am sure the primary purpose remains on selling technology and employing wastes of space....

(other examples of the 'debate' being obfuscated by the 'numbers caught speeding': A77 and A9 (both ins the Soviet State of Scotland). Impact on KSI - NO CASE MADE.

Its a scam! Speed cameras are a Scam... smile HADECS 3 anyone? - The next 'success' story in the making.....

They looked stupid trying to justify them on that basis from the start. What straw can they clutch at now?

Of course they reduce KSI's - the article says so in black and white:

"Research shows that lowering speed limits can hugely reduce deaths and injuries..." rolleyes

Although perhaps their real motivation is betrayed by the next paragraph:

"The best way to change people's travel behaviour is not to catch them speeding – it's by creating other transport options such as walking, cycling and public transport."

Just to get this straight in my mind.

All roads have a legal speed limit. Their location and how dangerous they are perceived is usually a factor in setting that speed limit.

You object to the method of detecting people exceeding the prescribed speed limit.

How would you prefer it were enforced, if at all?

Exactly. It's the only way to do it, which is why all other civilised countries have similar amounts of cameras to the UK.

Oh, wait a minute..........

For reference to that article that majority (8500) have been caught out by average speed cameras installed on an NSL road while it is being widened into a DC. I bet thanks to this the cameras are now retained after the works completed so they can continue to milk revenue.

I would personally prefer more police on the roads to catch the douche canoes who can't drive for toffee, unfortunately they are playing the hand they are dealt given they can hardly find the staff to open a station these days.

Yet despite the location/conditions of many roads not changing significantly and car safety actually improving - many roads have seen massive speed limit reductions in recent years.

Funny how the increased ability to catch people exceeding the limit has been mirrored by a wholesale reduction in limits. The cynic in my suspects the two are liked - afterall, it's a well known fact (supported by research) that if a speed limit is reduced below a limit that drivers feel is reasonable - they are more likely to exceed it......which in turn has the potential to generate more revenue.....scratchchin
