Discussion
My V8 Vantage Roadster and has just turned 4 years old so as it is going in to the local dealers to have the heated seat recall done I thought I would inquire about the cost of a 4 year (40,000 mile) service even though the car has done less than 10,000 miles. The conversation went like this.
Me:- "Can you give me the price please for a 4 year (40,000 mile) service.
Dealer:- "Yes sir, whats the registration number?"
M:- "ABC 123"
D:- That will be £1154 sir"
M:- " On the Aston Martin website it say £680"
D:- "Ah yes sir, that's for a 2012 model"
M:- "Is it the same service on cars of different year registration then?"
D:- "Yes sir but the 2012 on models have a discounted price structure"
M:- " What is the price please for a one year (10,000 mile service) for a 2011 and 2012 model?"
D:- " £651 for both models"
M:- " So what extra is included on the 4 year service?"
D:- " It includes a brake fluid change"
Am I missing something or is an extra £503 to change the brake fluid a complete rip off for owners of pre 2012 cars!!!!!!!

have never paid more than £850 inc VAT for my DB9 from a main dealer.......however I do negotiate the price.......if people are stupid enough to pay the price that they are first quoted, then they need to take some lessons in "life skills"
Not true. You can easily earn the money saved in the time spent calling around and negotiating. Agree if negotiations are protracted, but a 5 min process of obtaining 2 or 3 comparable quotes can bring the price down by £200 / £300 which, unless you earn £40 per min, is probably worth the effort.
I can never get mine done for under £850 even though I've read some posts that suggest the service should start from £600 / £700.

i have never called another garage and had all 3 of my Astons serviced by the same dealer.....people who are unable or unwilling to negotiate are weak.....love doing business with people who can't negotiate
To say someone is weak is a bit strong.....could be that they have far more money than you and generally couldn't give a toss. Doesn't mean they're not VERY astute people, but just people who couldn't care less about the odd few hundred, it's the off few hundred thousand that makes them take notice.....doesn't make them weak, just makes them far richer than you ;Big Ry said:

I shall retreat to the drawing room, don my smoking jacket and relax with a cohiba until the lunchtime effects have worn off

Why should we have to negotiate the price of a standard service? All that is being negotiated is the price, the service hopefully remains the same.
If we were talking about removing some optional items from the package, that would make sense.
What's actually happening is the dealer is trying it on with the opening offer.
We shouldn't be accepting this as a society - I'm getting tired of being told porkies and quoted silly prices by those I would like to trust when doing business with them.

Not true. You can easily earn the money saved in the time spent calling around and negotiating. My point is that some people like to just call up, book the service in and that's it.
They then proceed to pop their card in and enter the pin to whatever the generic amount was on the paper. Some people honestly don't care about a whopping £300 saving when they start out the day by s
tting that out.....LordBretSinclair said:

AML introduced lower fixed price servicing presumably as an extra sales push for the revised 2012.25 model.
Such practice was bound to upset owners of earlier, mechanically identical cars.
As your car, like many others is very low mileage, the brake fluid now may be in perfect condition. I think it is changed routinely because water droplets can contaminate the fluid. Hydroscopic I think might be the term. This can easily be checked for, to determine if the fluid change is needed.
The reference to Works stating service prices looks a good starting point, for a service appointment conversation with another dealer.
Respectfully, it's not 'we are being ripped off'.
It might be, that those who are in pre 12.25 cars and don't do any research or haggle, are in some instances being ripped off
But only if those people are either being charged far more for something than they can pay someone else to do the same job or, if they are being pushed into un necessary fluid changes, etc
As for the maths compared to a 12.25 car, that's not relevant. As some have said, it will have upset some when the new policy was brought in, but not as much as when Ferrari brought in 7 years free servicing on all their new cars (transferable with the car) a few years back.

I never negotiate on anything.
I ask the price, if I find it acceptable I pay it. If it's not acceptable I say "no thanks" and that's the last they see of me.
For example, I asked Nissan what the price of a 3 year (30,000) mile service was on my GTR. £1250+vat was the answer. But to justify it they said it was all fluids and 3.3 hours labour. Really ?
So I said "ok, that's fine" and booked it in was a specialist who charged me £600 inc vat.
