Help with headers
Discussion
HELP. Ive got an '04 CV8 with a full system of unknown origin, probably Walkinshaw, with rotten headers. Spoken to Walkinshaw and they think its one of their systems by my description and were going to get back to me with availability/price over four weeks ago, i've tried them several times and still no reply. Ive also spoken to Monkfish who are happy to sell me a complete system, re-map and cold air intake, but at £3500 im reluctant to do this as both Walkinshaw and Monkfish have both agreed that due to the full system its most probably already had a re-map etc so don't want to pay again for something ive already got as all I need is a pair of headers. Can anyone help me with what makes of headers will line up with the system already in place? I don't mind a bit of welding/cutting to line it up but don't want to perform major surgery. Will Pacemakers line up or maybe just buy the headers from Monkfish or defillipo etc? I'll get it rolling road tuned when its repaired to see what ive got to play with. Cheers
Did your car have aftermarket headers or the factory cast iron ones? Would be surprised if aftermarket headers would have rotted away in under 10 years if they were supplied by Walkinshaw...
As said above, custom headers may be an option, but it would be best if you can identify whether you have a catback only, in which case your choice of replacement heads gets much wider.

Post a photo of your manifolds, then someone might be able to help tell you what you have, or had.Presumably if they've rusted through already they're either OEM or very cheap mild steel ones
Thanks for the quick reply Kmud and Codswallup, I did try to post last night but was out and it didn't like my iphone for some reason! As I said, it's had a full system fitted almost from new with headers, sports cats etc all the way to the back. I've spoken at great length to Walkinshaw about the system and described it, boxes, what the tail pipes look like etc and they're confident it's one that they supplied, especially as it was done almost from new through a dealership. I did question why it was rotten and asked if they did mild steel exhausts but they told me that at that time they were supplying exhausts through an Australian supplier so the stainless was not of a good quality so would not be designed to withstand our weather. What I'm really asking is if another make of headers, say Pacemaker, Wortec or Defillipo, would be the correct length to match up to the current system at the cats on the car as I'm fed up waiting and want the car sorted in time for the MOT in July, and as Monkfish say they need 4 weeks to get an exhaust made I would be happy to order a set of their headers if they're going to meet the system on the car. As in said in my original post I'm happy to do a bit of welding/cutting but don't want to perform major surgery and also don't want to buy a set of headers that wont ever fit! Hoppe this helps. Cheers
OP, without getting at least some pictures up of what the exhaust system/headers looks like on there at the moment, you can't expect people to give you any proper answers, unless you want complete guesses, which will frustrate you even more!
With regards to WPUK, like most places, they are very busy, best bet is to pick up the the phone and speak Dave direct.
To post pictures, you will need a photo account, photobucket etc, then just copy and paste the link across.

OP, Where are you based again? As the guys said earlier, there are many different systems out there, some mate up ok on the various sections, some are totally different.
If you are anywhere within spitting distance of Milton Keynes, I would pop in to see Monkfish, they'd be able to tell you straight away what the system is. Once you know whether it is Wortec, Walkinshaw, Pacemaker, you have a good starting point on knowing whether it's a straight swap or whether something is likely to be fabricated from scratch.
If you are more South East, I would recommend Holden Racing near Tonbridge (Kent) who would be happy to take a look for you or NWJ Autocare near Maidstone/Chatham (Kent).
Further North, AAS in Newcastle are your best bet, they won't be able to fit you in for any work anytime soon, but would probably be able to take a quick peek.
Failing that, there aren't too many other specialists that would be able to easily 'recognise' what system it is running on these cars, apart from all the specialists on here of course!

Thanks blue666uk that's extremely helpful. I'm in Maidstone so I'll go and see NWJ Autocare or Holden Racing over the weekend
Holden Racing unlikely to be there at weekends, they're effectively a race team who look after customer cars to support their activities, but they are also an authorised Wortec dealer.NWJ (Neil) - 01634 862532
Holden Racing (Darren) - 01732 885116
Have used and would recommend either without a moments hesitation.
