Have uni students got a death wish??
Discussion
Almost bagged my first uni student last night!!
Was pulling away from the cross roads (anyone form Leeds, it was Hydepark corner towards Headingley), as I was about 5 mts up road, some numpty in 4x4 thought that traffic would let her out if she pulled out slightly (1/4 car length) from a side road I was about to pass.
As I had no chance of stopping I had to avoid her and what do I find as I swerve round her.... some
ing student deciding that would be the best time and place to cross the road from behind her car whilst on the phone and looking the wrong way
, to say she got a fright as I came in to full view, lights on swerving the other way and braking at the same time to avoid one numpty just to have to do it again to avoid another.
Fcuking hell have some people no sense what so ever, if she had bothered to walk the few metres down the road she could have simply used the crossing and would have had no problems what so ever.
Also whilst on the same rant why do some people try and cross roads whilst having a conversation on the phone, several times now I've had students step out onto the road at crossing whilst its on red for them while I have been driving down only for me to have to brake sharply and they think its me that is in the wrong.
Sorry if some students are offended, but this must make it number 12 as to the number of students who have stepped out in front of me in the past 3 months whilst I've been driving and this one was the closest miss by far.

I believe one was hit outside the university a few Fridays before Christmas, cos my dad got lost following the diversion trying to pick my brother up from his digs.
You should try Oxford though, bikes, often with no brakes (yes literally), flying thru junctions thinking they have right of way over everyone, after all mummy and daddy pay for their right to be their…

We have the same trouble here with the stoodents from the local colouring in college.
I'm sure it has something to do with kids not having an equivalent of the Green Cross Code.
If its a clear day then it isn't so bad cause you can see them quite easily, its those p1ssed up students at 2am that assume anything on the road is a taxi and whats the adopted way to stop a taxi, yep you guessed it....... stagger into the middle of the road and put both hands in the stop postition and hope the car stops and picks you up.
Now I have got use to this kind of trying to stop taxis since I have been around headingley for knocking on 8 years and know whatthey are doing whilst Im driving back home at that time. Its a whole different ballgame when you are the passenger and the person driving isn't use to this jump in front and the car will stop approach.
I now make sure all friends visiting know that during the months of student, beware they are liable to jump in front of cars wanting a lift.

It's people that walk behind my car when I'm reversing that annoy me.
...and those that cross the road in front of you when you're the 1st car queueing to join the main road from a side road and are obviously waiting for a gap. FFS it doesn't take more than 1/2 ounce of brain power to see what's going on and cross behind the 1st car!
That stretch of road between the University and Headingley has more pedestrian related accidents than anywhere else in West Yorkshire. Funnily enough about 90% of them involve students and happen late at night.
I suspect it something to do with the large number of pubs (Otley run anyone!!) and the correspondingly large number of fast food establishments, combined with the extremely high student population.

I suspect the other 10% to happen when cricket and rugby are on, then you are basically guaranteed to be almost knocking someone over and the whole of headingley is classed as a path.
Its on them days I leave the car at home, its not worth the hassle.
I reversed over a kidd pulling out of a parking space, heard a thud and got out to see what happened, then there is this kid laying on the floor, feeling really guilty I helped him up and sent him on his way, only to notice he was writing "clean me" on the back of my car in the dirt when I hit him, and he spelt clean, "claen" so I gave chase and cought the little sh#te, only to drag him back to car and lecture him about spelling.

college.

6 student deaths a year I heard, from the Woodies to the Dry Dock. Nasty.
