Trouble at the Top last night

Yes, I too hope he suceeds. The fact that in high season it costs more to take a 90 minute ferry across the channel than it does to fly to the States is an absolute shocker.
He was a little paranoid, but he was plainly right in thinking that some of the other ships were blcking his entry.

I just did a quick exercise on the web. I'm planning a trip to France in the TVR in June so I put in the details of when I want to travel and these are the results (car plus 2 passengers travelling in the middle of the day);
Speed Ferries £50 return
Sea France £155 return
Eurotunnel £179 return
P&O £170.50 return
I think I know who I will be booking with.

There was a thread running on this last night (admittedley in the wrong forum):

In December he was even doing 'BOGOF' for £50
The Le Mans trip is going to be fun, and a bargin, via the various car groups/pistonheads/etc we've just about block booked the 16th June 7.45am sailing......

Have you checked their ground clearances? It's the only thing that worries me as I don't want to ground my front like that yellow fezza did.

But Paul,
The constant strive for cheaper and cheaper 'things' can only end in tears.
It's a bit like the budget airlines: I simply wouldn't trust a flight that costs the monies these operators run at.
Besides, anything that frees up the masses has to be viewed with deep reservation.
Btw, congrats on the impending arrival - can't wait to see the photos - a truly joyous development!

I agree with what you say, particularly with relation to budget airlines. And there's something about the neatly pressed British airways uniform that makes you feel as though you are home already when you get on the plane.....
The price of ferries is a scandal though and this guys operation did not look cheap in terms of service, just good value.
A trans Pennine blast might be in order to assist the running in.

Sound like the definition of a liberal capitalist society to me. What would you prefer - communism?
Would you not say though that price based consumerism is ruining any concept we once had of service?
I thought he came across as totally vague and wishy washy..
I'm amazed he is running the company.
When he called that meeting of the ship owners .. saying things breaking .. who will pay etc ..
he had no facts .. like a maintenance log .. so vague
and seemed so meek ..
Bit like that classic line from Dolf Lungren
'Oh Skeletor - you really are the most dangereous guy in the universe'
I hope they suceed though .. I'm booked with them for a June trip to Le Mans

Anyone see last night's episode of this? When you are apparently worried about women only being interested in you for your money when you are a fat scruffy self made 60 year old east end millionaire, is the path to true romance really to invite a string of nubile 21 year old eastern european girls to spend time on your yacht in the med?
Path to true lust maybe
Also brought to mind Barry and his Russian wife when Auf Wiedersen Pet was resurrected not so long ago!

I saw bits of it while on the phone .... kept thinking - apart from his money "what's in it for those women " - the guy looked a real mess IMHO.
- I think he may have a problem attracting older , 40+ women who are already wealthy / moneyed / more sophisticated.
