I've got no knowledge of that specific watch I'm afraid, but my first thought is that (while smart) it looks expensive for an accurate way of telling the time.
Everyone has mobile phones and digital clocks everywhere these days, so most people really interested in watches care about a watch as an interesting / beautiful / emotional object rather than one for just telling the time of day.
At which point the radio receiver thing becomes a little irrelevant, and you're left with an expensive quartz watch which may get replaced by your son by the next nice watch to come along, or (I suspect) a classic manual / automatic watch when he is older and fancies one.
Therefore perhaps see if your son would fancy the "later" watch now - ie. get something more timeless which as an 18th present he may keep and cherish for ever? £1k or so will get you a cheaper-end new automatic watch or any number of nice 2nd hand ones.
I may be misinterpreting the situation or your son's future tastes (!) but I hope that's something to consider.

With the above in mind, you want a Rado: http://amzn.to/1CoLZg1
Or if he likes Junghans generally, have a look at the Max Bill range which most people agree look great - recentish thread on here - and vary in price from a few hundred to about £1.5k (automatic and manual ones, and some chronographs etc.)
Personally I like the Autodromo range too (I'm still looking for a Monoposto if anyone has one they don't want!), most are quartz but the Stradale is automatic and well under a grand

None of these will have particularly high-end movements, which matters to some, but they're all proper watches (ie. not just about telling the time, ironically...) and could make a great for-ever present. Hope that helps!
