Love my bike mechanic!

Walked 2 miles to my house, picked up bike, removed broken rear mech, ordered and fitted a new XT 9 speed rear mech, test rode it, tuned the gear changes, rode it to my house, walked home.... £44. Not sure I could have bought a mech for much less than that (even with 9 speed mechs now being quite cheap).
I was surprised to see how much better built the XT mech is when compared to the broken SLX one (having broken 2 in 2 years it seems that the XT might be worth the premium, especially when the price difference is now so marginal).

One who has no time or inclination :-) 300 year old house 'project', TVR, work, kids, leisure, living etc get in the way. Also means I support a local one-man band business :-)
