2010 Polo window problem

My wife's 2010 Polo SEL has developed a problem with the front nearside window.
The window will not open or close with the switch, although the electric motor can be heard. The glass is also loose and as the vehicle is being driven it gradually slides down into a partially open position.
Anybody experienced similar issues and can advise as to it's cause and remedy?
