I'm pretty sure at my last MOT I was told the discs needed skimming to pass the test but that wouldn't work next time round.

So assuming I need new discs (will they have to change them all, or just the offending front ones? (though it might have been all of them - I can't remember!) I will need new pads too.

I think EBC are the cheapest out there, and though I give the car hard road use, saving for wedding and honeymoon means no track-days for me this year, what will I need and how much will it cost for discs and pads per corner?

cheers but as I won't be tracking this year I can't justify spending nearly £200 on pads when I can get another type for just over £60

Hi Zebedee, just doing the same job myself.

Went for EBC Turbo pads and opted for the middle ground with Mintex Pads. Green stuff are totally fine for hard road use though, had these before with no real complaints.

Could save a few bob if you "do it yourself". It really is very easy and there are some good guides on t'internet. One of the easier DIY jobs I reckon.

Mail me if I can be of any help.

its going in for a service anyway and for £80 to fit disks and pads all round it will save me a few blisters and I'm not sure I would want to risk it with it being such a vital piece of the car. I am starting to do all my own work on the other car (1994 mondeo) so when I get more mechanically competent I may think about it then.

Am going for the turbo grooves and EBC pads cheers!

Nice one zebedee,

Good to be cautious but the elise is really very simple mechanically speaking.

I downloaded the Lotus service notes from t'internet and providing you follow them, torque stuff up as specified and use quality parts you shouldn't have any probs.

For me, working on the car is all part of the fun, but I can see it's not for everyone.

Have fun

P.S Fit some stainless hoses if you get the chance, they look the business and really improve brake pedal feel.

Hi,

I just replaced mine with full set of EBC Discs and Full set of green stuff bads (produce less brake dust too), excellent brakes now. I shopped around and found www.proven-products.co.uk to be the cheapest £313.00 in total including p&p for full set of EBC discs and green stuff pads.

If you want to do any track work then don't bother with green stuff pads. Fine on the road but they cook on the track and glaze.

False economy IMHO.

but as I said in my first thread I am not doing any track work this year and from other comments they seem fine for road use, so sounds like a good economy to me!

Even on the road they won't last long though. If you want to save a few quid in the short term then fair enough but otherwise I would go for something better (pagids).

http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=40775 if you are an MSA licence holder you get 50% off brake pads by dealing with EBC direct. MSA Sprint Licence £32 for a National B, you do the maths....

From the info I have seen, EBC recognised the weakness in the orginal green stuff pads and have brought out a much improved version.

Not *that* much improved. Its simple, if you want a budget pad for road only use then they are fine but for track work or if you have a modded elise that needs to be on the brakes more then get decent pads.

I just tried a set of new compound EBC green stuff and they are still poor with hard use but acceptable for normal road use.
Just put RS 4-2's on and from cold they are comparable with the EBC and as such probably not worth the money for road only use, however on track when hot they are quite stunning by comparision and well worth the extra ££.
If your concerned EBC Green Stuff produce very little visable dust, only obvious quantity is that found in the cross drilled holes. Pagis by comparision chuck buckets of soot over your wheels for good measure.

Nobody has mentioned the Mintex pads yet (except me!)

I've just fitted a set as I thought they would be a good cost / performance compromise for road use.

Very pleased with the performance versus green stuff, very controlled action and lots of feel.

My old green stuff lacked bite and needed to be stamped on to work really well. The Mintex seems much more sensitive - a big improvement and worth a try IMO.

Can't vouch for longevity yet - well let you know!

i had the mintex before - they seem to lose feel after a while and need to be quite hot before they impress
