Chimaera Rear Light problem!
Discussion
Hi Everyone
I have just notice that my rear brake light lens has come off from the light fitting and has dropped between the bulb unit and the clear lens covering the four pod lights, if you know what I mean!!!! My question is how do you refit the brake light lens back on to the actually light fitting? Do I need to remove the clear lens covering the whole of the lights and if so how do I do that?
Also any idea on replacement suspension units?
Final question..... I need to sell either a porsche 996 or the TVR. Keeping both was never in my plans, however much I enjoy them, any feedback on which one I should let go off??? I love the TVR but I'm always slightly nervous whether it will break down on me. I like to shoot off to Europe for a blast around on their roads and because of the Porsche reliability sometimes think I should keep that and let the TVR go. Which one would you keep? Can you make a TVR be as reliable as a porsche?

Lights - not 100% sure, but suspect the plastic cover has to come off. It's held on with black adhesive (Sikkaflex or similar), which you need to carefully remove. Someone else will give better instructions.
Suspension - more info please on exactly what needs changing, why, and or what you use the car.
996 or Chimaera - Your choice. Mine is very reliable, but my wife would be far more likely to go touring in a 911 or our Audi. Nothing to do with reliability.

Thanks for the reply.
I have the four pot rear light model. I noticed the brake light lens had dropped off. Do I need to take the clear lens covering the whole rear lights off to fix the brake light cover back on? It looks you do. How do I take that off? Is it just stuck on?
Re suspension I think one of my rear units is not working properly, you feel ever pot hole you hit!!!! Not looking for anything fancy just a decent replacement. I don't track the car but do enjoy a blast when the road allows.
If I felt I could jump in the TVR and hit europe and not worry about it starting the next day (electrics basically) I think I would get rid off the 996, although I do like it, just think the TVR is a rarer sight nowadays, loads of 996's.

As said, I am sure the perspex pod is simply stuck on. You don't want to damage anything, so i would take that to a TVR expert to sort if it was mine. Won't take them long, they will probably make a neater job of it than (you or) I can.
Dampers - again, I would have an expert inspect them. They may just need a refurb - I had my Gaz dampers done last year for very little money. The original Bilsteins on the car are very good and I think you can get them refurbed still. Alternatively, it is just possible that you have after market dampers that have simply been set too hard.....
Starting issues - the most common on these cars is immobiliser, so check if it has been replaced recently and perhaps have it looked at by,.......an expert! The second most common is the battery being simply knackered. Standard lead acid batteries have about a 6 year life. The third most common is "hot start" issues, which can most commonly be the immobiliser starting to fail, but can also be the starter dying or the live cable from battery to starter needing refreshing. Fourth is the starter solenoid, and it has been known for the ignition switch to wear out. In all cases, a good TVR expert can test the systems for you and advise

Cheers for the advice.I think I've been quite lucky with my TVR. Had it 3 years now and the only issues I have had have been:
1) drain on the battery - turned out the radio was wired in so that it was constantly on, even when turned off!!
2) hot start problem - solved with a hot-start kit
3) Speedo stopped working
Fuel gauge caught me out once when I first brought it. Learn now not to trust it when it is on low. Why are they so bad???
With the roof off and the sun shinning the sound of the V8 is hard to beat!!!!!
