In process of buying Chim 4.0 1998 £16k ish !

Insurance quote thru sunninghill is £2k because of 25% loading for 1st TVR and 0 yrs NCB
After 1 yr NCB it drops to £1k
Im 37, no convictions , no accidents

Can anybody advise a company that would be cheaper for a 1st Time TVR ??? or am i going to have to suffer it for first year ?

or one that would consider my company car NCB

my other option is to put in wife's name with 8 yrs NCB but still £950 and i would then lose the NCB on her car (MR2)

thanks

If you put it in your wife's name then companies like Sunninghill will normally allow you to mirror your no claims since it is a second car.

They did that for me so i kept my orignal car insurance and was allowed to have the same discount on my TVR. Slowly i am now building up a NCB in its own right on the TVR.

I bought my Chim 500 in 2003 ans insured it with www.autotorque.com they equal your NCB cost me £800 ish for 6k miles. My next insurance I went with classicline, they advertise in sprint, cost ne £550 for 6k miles..I'm 35 with full NCB on my other car. I know people have mentioned Mannings too..everyone has their favourite.

Cheers

I had very much the same thing - the specialists were expensive due to it being my first TVR/Group 20 car.

I went through Privilege - 26 y/o, car on driveway, 4yrs NCB, unlimited mileage - £990.

I understand that Tesco also come highly recommended...

You didn't mention if you asked for a reduced mileage policy. As you have a company car as a daily driver, ask for a policy limited to say.. 5k miles per year. That should bring your policy down, and after the first year, you could go back to unlimited policy if you find it restrictive.

Out of interest, i'm with Peart who also advertise in Sprint.

MSM Insurance!

They will mirror your company car no claims (providing your employer will confirm it in writing)

I was in the same boat, new to driving, no accidents but no NCB either! You might be able to shop around, I had similar figures (higher as Im younger + business use) but sunninghill was the only insurer out of 109 who didnt decline me point blank.

Being older, you may have luck with other insurers

I'd second Marcos Maniac - go to MSM. 'Twas one of my first posts on PistonHeads. They will mirror your company NCB and quoted me £850 on a 6k policy - for my first TVR at 26. Most other quotes ranged from £1,400 to £10,000 yes that's £10,000!!!

Admittedly I think we are in a pretty low risk postcode area.

Speak to mannings, I pay sub £600, for fully comp, Europe cover, Track day cover and recovery. That includes wife and protected NCB for free.

I'm 35, 3 pts, Oxford postcode but with full NCB.

I've just insured mine, also my first. Nothing seems to make much sense in the motor insurance world. I'm 31 with 2yrs NCB but clean license and no claims at all since 1998 (I've been abroad hence only 2yrs NCB), and it's a second car so I was happy to restrict the mileage. Tesco were rubbish for me, wanted about £1400!!? Then Richhy gets £1250 at 22! I think they make it up as they go along, to be honest. Went with Norwich Union Direct in the end at £779, garaged, less than 10000 miles, which was the best I could get out of about twenty companies (including the so-called 'specialists'). Insurance companies = crooks.

Try both Direct Line and Tesco, I got quotes for £529 and £540 with £400 excess on '97 500 chim. I'm 41 full with 5yrs NCB. Do go online with Direct Line... (there's a jingle there) as this includes a discount. You also get % extra off your house insurance if you get motor with them. I don't have shares in either by the way.

Sorry..can I be the first to say... HOW much !?

I trust its got ALL the extra's, 1 owner, Very low miles, a gleaming service history, and some odds and ends thrown in for good measure. (or is it from a Dealer)

I'd be paying 13-14k private for an average 1998 4.0 at the moment.

Cheers,
Matt.

£16k is what im seeing from dealers in northwest - Gorner & Chris Neils. I would buy private but just cant find one that suits (unless anybody has one for sale, budget is £13-£16k)most classifieds seem to be down south, i want chim 400 as mint as possible.

Just have a gander at the first page of the classifieds and look at Blythy's stock.. he's even got a 1999 500 for £15k. I know he's down south, but its better to put yourself out a little bit and get the right car, than pay a premium for one that happens to be on your doorstep. YOu could always ask "apprentice" about some of the cars too !

Cheers,
Matt

I was very similar although a few years older. No accidents/points but no NCB because I was overseas. But Mannings came in at 601.00 for 3,000 miles - much less than anyone else. Have to join the TVR owners club and I think they'll want a letter from your company car insurers. Mannings were one of only 2 companies that really made an effort to get me a decent premium.

have been with mannings for nearly 3 years, and they have been good. i shan't post what i'm paying as you'll choke
first year was with egg ( they offered discount which beat tesco ).
mannings include track cover for tvrcc events, but you have to be a member of the club to take advantage of their policy in the first place.

I got my insurance through A Manning & co ( Via the TVR club )They quoted around £ 545. fully comp, including official track day use.
It is my first TVR 4.0 l Chimaera P reg.
Age 44, Living in Bromley. I had no no claims bonus. but they were able to include company car insurance to get me a discount. I had to get written proof from my insurers of claim free driving. Steve
