Driving back from Hexham along the A69, wasn't in a particular hurry but doing about 75-80, noticed the blue lights way off behind me.
I was apraoching some roadworks, reducing the road down to single lane, so pulled over into a layby and waited for him to get past. He went past me and I pulled out again, but I ended up following him through the roadworks as he got caught behind a wagon. The wagon wasn't going particularly fast, but I kept my distance and when the roadworks ended, he shot off into the distance. I resumed my 75-80 pace.
About 10miles down the road, I come across the same traffic car pulled on the hard shoulder, no other cars with him. He pulls out when I approach, but having seen him in plenty of time, I managed to put a car between us so he doesn't get direct line of sight to me. He cruises to the next turn off, then shoots off up the slip road and away.
Am I being paranoid? Was he waiting to see if I would go shooting past at silly speeds? Was he pulled over to eat his bait?
I felt like he was playing cat and mouse games with me and i was his prey.

It's January time. It's coming up to the end of the financial year. There's always an increase in speeding offence fines around this time. Sounds unlikely but that's what I was told by my ex neighbour police officer and certainly both my (and only) speeding tickets were collected in January (2001). And if you think you are being paranoid, I'd suggest not, I had exactly the same thing with a traffic car that went around a roundabout one and a half times when he saw me and followed me up a dual carriage way. Don't forget also, there is a well publicised drive at targeting powerful sportscar drivers.

Really? Where did you read that? Sounds like discrimination to me.
Discrimination is perfectly acceptable with just cause...
ie: campaigns for motorcycle safety, young drivers etc etc...

I see what you are saying SC but that is a bit of a dangerous precedent. Trouble is, we have on the one hand the government telling is "discrimination is bad, m'kay, (for example) not enough inner city blacks are enjoying the lake district", on the other hand we are told it's acceptable to discriminate against the drivers of sports cars (Mondeo man/white van man just as capable of driving dangerously!). Indeed the entire insurance industry is based on risk assessment and therefore discrimination! It's one of those times that a black and white approach doesn't work but President Blair will still try it on...

Small cars seem to give young blokes something to prove. Was in London today, driving along in my A6 behind a bus. Bus stops. I wait for oncoming traffic. 'Overkeen' young cool dude behind in a Punto hoots me for not pulling out into path of a Freelander. Pi55 off mate. Anyway, I pass the bus and it's about 200 yds to a red light. Lad then tries to overtake me. It was a 30 limit and I'd accelerated to 32-33ish passing the bus. He ends up doing an emergency stop next to me on the wrong side of the road. Where did he think he was going? Traffic then proceeded and he eventually overtook down a bus lane. Why?
