French Petrol 95 RON
Discussion
Just a timely warning to all PH'ers that frog petrol has a higher ethyl content than we are used to in the UK. I found out the hard way. I'm reminded by a recent magazine article in a magazine which states that the EU is demanding that UK petrol is also dosed with even more ethyl - within the next 2 years.
I was just about to drive down to the track, filled the Caterham to the brim, but was offered a ride with a mate so left my car parked up initially in the shade but I forgot about the sun tracking round putting it in the full hot sun.
Several hours later, I returned to the car which was now sitting in a petrol soaked grassy clearing ( it could have gone up in flames with a spark ) and worse still, a line of blistered paint from the filler down the back of the car. The heat was sufficient to expand the fuel and blow past the filler cap and it did the job of neat paint stripper.
Its aggressive stuff so watch out for spillages and over-filling.
Plenty of info on the web about other effects including perished hoses, o-rings, glass fibre and the various other parts found on motors.

You'll find that the selection is just the same as the UK, with the higher 99 octane just as easy to get. You'll have no problems when you get there.
I don't know if it was just me going for the low octane economy stuff which my car is happy to run on but rather miffed to have to get my paintwork resprayed, especially as its a Caterham special colour !

I thought the commonly available grades in France were 95 and 98.
I've previously been on Gazole/Diesel but this year I am taking something in need of 98.

I was in France last week and did notice that in many stations the regular 95RON has been replaced with 95-E10, where that was the case the alternative available was 98RON - I was in a car which is happy with E10 but reassured that I would have been OK for now with the 98RON in an older car. In the area of Brittany I went to they did seem to still have regular 95RON fuel, however.

Does anyone know if my 1998 Integra will be ok on the high ethanol fuel?
