Buying a Porsche warranty

Apologies if this has been part of detailed posting before. I am looking at possibly buying a 911 privately (around 5 or 6 years old) or from a non OPC dealer. One that has full OPC service history, but doesn't have the extended transferable warranty. How difficult is it to then buy a approved warranty from Porsche? Car would presumably need to go through 111 point inspection. thanks

If it's full Porsche history, then after passing a 111 point check they should be able to offer you a warranty.

Anything that gets picked up will need sorting before hand. Some dealers also insist on N spec tyres too...

I have found the Porsche warranty is a double edged sword. It gives piece of mind against catastrophic failure. Stuff like a dud battery is not covered. On the other hand you pay heavily for it as you cannot modify the car, inside or out, in any way. You have to have it serviced by an OPC (and they know it therefore few deals) and any parts, i.e. the replacement battery, must be Porsche originals. I think if I was buying privately I might look at an independent warranty for engine and gearbox only.

I don't call fitting a bosche battery or some Pilot super sports modding though and bang no warranty.

AT the end of the day after 3 years not much is covered, clutch, battery, rads, disks, shocks, trim etc is all NOT covered so really you are ONLY buying a engine warranty and than that's means you have to fit a daft Mol £250 battery and some old N spec tyres.

4 years warranty costs is a nice pot to have in the bank, esp if you have 2 Porkers in the garage.

I think with 2 cars and 30k miles I have only needed a £65 clip so hence I don't have a warranty and have a £4k slush fund building up and can run Pilot Super sports ;-)

even taking into account the 5 porkers I have had non with extended warranty I must be 6 or 8k up by now maybe even £10k up over the 5 cars.

If buying privately try to get the seller to agree to putting the warranty on in his/her name first, it can then be transferred to you immediately and you therefore avoid the 90day minimum ownership requirement for buying the warranty.
