The Virage - Cheap Aston, but why?

Does anyone know they reason why second hand Virages are going for very little money - many of which have extremely low mileage, even for an Aston.

Is it because the cheaper DB7 appeared on the market?

To be honest: yet another argument to go for that gorgeous Brit V8!

Simple, really. The virage isnt a particularly good car. The rear suspension design was dire, and caused all sorts of wobbling around under cornering. There were lots of little electrical gremlins. And basically they didnt last long till the Vantage came out.

There are 6.3 litre engined virages around which are ok if you get the widebody suspension bits, but then it looks very "Romford", if you know what I mean.

A number of customers went back to their previous late 80's Vantage once the Virage came out. And the Virage never really recovered. Plus there was a recession at the time and lots of customers tried to bail out of orders.

I can tell you why. Forget 5.3 litre V8 and all aluminium hand rolled bodies. In 1993 we failed to get below 7.4 seconds in 0-60 on Millbrook proving ground... in the works Virage Volante. Changing the rear diff made bugger all difference. We tried it three or four times then the car over heated and spilled coolant all over the start of the mile straight... as some bloke in a Jag nearly ran us over accelerating onto the straight from the run off (twat!). Coolant system... surely not from a Renault commercial vehicle... no???!!! How do i know all this?? That would be telling!!!

Vantage is a totally different beast. Loved that car loveditloveditlovedit. Think my name may even be on the fuel carbon cannister bracket drawing.....
