car been standing long time and not sure if calipers will free up (or how to) - what is the recognised minor upgrade replacement path?

Retaining std good con discs and have original factory OZ web style alloys

Looking for economical std / upgrade solution requiring no mods - preferably with a small increased bias to front, as used to lock a rear under last moment braking

Also like to source competition style flexis for front and quality pedal upgrades - alloy with rubber (not plastic) clamp on

The brakes from a 5ltr are a simple mod. The std 240mm brakes are rubbish in my experience. Especially on the 4.3.

Yep 5 litre brakes with SS hoses are a very good upgrade.

I upgraded the front brakes on mine and as has been said its easiest without changing wheels or making mods to fit the calipers off a 5.0ltr car.
You will find people with them kicking around after doing even bigger upgrades when they have been happy to change wheels and tyres etc.

Thats calipers
For the rotors there are various - the EBC options are listed in the Griffith Parts List wiki on this forum.

Ferodo DS pads seem to be a great performance improvement too.
I have EBC yellow stuff and they are OK, if a bit dusty.

For gods sake get rid of the standard front brakes. They are bloody awful.

Other people on here.

There are bound to be people here who have their old calipers on the shelf "just in case" and would swap them for beer tokens now they are happy with their improved setup
