I was pulled over four weeks ago and given a ticket for doing 66mph in a 50mph limit on a duel carriage way.

I haven't received anything in the post yet. Is there a time limit for a response?

What "ticket" were you given?

Did they indicate you'd be served a fixed penalty notice or court summons ?

They just filled it out at the side of the road. It's in the range of a fixed penalty and it was a quiet time of night.

If you were told you would be reported for speeding....

If it goes to court, the papers have to be laid to court within 6 months.

Otherwise 3 years is usually the next time out period.

I could be slightly wrong though.

If you're thinking along the lines of the 14 days in which to receive a NIP, then no, that doesn't apply.

You've already had notice by means of being stopped there and then.

Unless I'm missing something...

I would be very surprised if you weren't given a verbal NIP at the time you were spoken to & given the ticket. That being so, there is no requirement for a written NIP to be served so the 14 days allowed for that doesn't apply.
I would suggest you carefully read the ticket you were given to see what actions you are required to take. This may help: https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q203.htm

I wouldn't dwell on it. At the end of the day you're either going to get 3 points or you're not. Not a major problem unless you are under 21 premium wise and if you don't happy days.

An unmarked car once caught me and another guy in identical cars seeing whose had lost more power over the years on a twisty dual carriageway. Pulled us both and said we were both getting reported for dangerous driving and would be losing our licences. Gave us producers as well, I went and produced and that was the end of it. Never heard a thing.

That ticket you were given is the Fixed Penalty Notice. If you read it it will tell you to pay £100 amd send in your licence to get 3 points added. You're very close to running out of time to accept it though.

Not necessarily. Could be a TOR.

No idea what one of those is. I just figured with him getting a ticket at the speed he was going vp chances are that it's an FPN.

The good news is that GrimNasty will be along now, furiously wking himself into a fremzy that I've written something that isn't perfect around the law.

If it is a FPN I think you may have already missed the time-limit to surrender your licence, it used to be seven days after issue, with 28 days to return the paperwork & payment to court.

It says "Wait until I hear from them". It's not a FPN.

At the time the copper said I might be offered a Speed Awareness Course, due to the road and time of day. Seems unlikely to me.

It was my fault and one of those things, I'd just expected to hear by now.

Sounds like a TOR.
