Morning all!

6 weeks ago I was in Nicaragua volcano boarding, I came off at 70kph (Speed gun verified!) and landed heavily on my shoulder and head.

As it was the second last day of my holiday and not particularly fancying dealing with the South American hospital system I waiting till I got home till I went to A&E. Got checked out, got the volcano rock scrubbed out my head and diagnosed with a neck and shoulder sprain. Told to take it easy for a few weeks and take some pain killers.

Pain has got a lot better over the last few weeks, the pinched nerve has gone, but I still need to take pain killers if I'm sitting down for a while.

First day back at the gym this morning. Taking it easy, try some dumbbell skull crushers at 6kg (used to do 12) and I couldn't even lift them above my head. Eventually managed to just do 2 and a half sets of 8 with 1KG.

After that I couldn't even open a door. No pain, but very weak.

So, am I just a weakling or should I see a physio? It seems to be the pushing away motion that I'm struggling the most with.

Cheers

Probably wise to see a physio and stay away from the gym (unless to do exercises the physio recommended). Or video yourself doing a 1RM shoulder press for major YT views. wink

Go and see a physio. I dislocated my shoulder last Aug, and even after having treatment, I know have gone back to the physio to help with increasing the mobility in the rotator cuff.

Even if it's one or two sessions, the work they can do now will mean it will decrease the issues you could have later.

Nerve damage most likely if there's no pain. It will be several months before you get your shoulder strength back. Looks like the original diagnosis in Nicaragua was probably correct.

Go and see a physio anyway, but if it's nerve damage there's very little they, or anyone, can do.

Having my last session of Physio today after injuring by shoulder last May! 30 odd sessions of physio and still not right although I think I'm getting there.

Oh great frown

Cheers for the advice.

I now very rarely get pain, just a very very dull ache. The first two weeks after it happened were agony.

Off to the docs!

Did something similar when climbing. No pain but the next day I couldn't raise my arm. Took a good few weeks to get better. Serves me right for not warming up before a dyno.
