Floppy Mirror - again

A few years ago I had a complete new door mirror mechanism fitted due to failing grub screw. Now its not had much use since then apart from an occasional fold-up in the garage but after Burghley on Sunday its gone floppy again (ooh eerrr).

In view of the above is this likely to be another mechanism or is there an easier fix. After a preliminary look doesn't reveal a grub screw on the o/s although there is one on the n/s mirror?

Do you mean it flops down, or just rotates unhindered by mechanism?

Yes it rotates without being tight on its axle - its not hanging off the door. I just find it odd the mechanism may have worn so soon after fitting a new mechanism.

When mine did that it was not wear, it was that the blade-shaped spring, that makes the mirror "click" on stops as you rotate it, had become detatched. It is a steel spring blade that is attached by some sort of spot weld to the alloy casting.
Not knowing what was wrong, I had to take the mirror off the door, dismantle it, get to the dislodged spring, drill through the casting and spring, and rivet the two together. You will probably have to do this too, but it might be possible to pop the mirror glass out, detatching the heater element wires as you go, and unscrew the casting from the casing.
I need to investigate my mirrors this weekend - both are a little loose - so i will test that theory out and email you a yes (you need to take the mirror off the car) or a no (you don't).
