Crazy speed limits

I commute regularly to Doncaster (someone had to work there) and one thing puzzles me about a couple of roads within 2 miles of each other.....
Wheatley Hall Road - a busy dual carriageway which passes through a large predominantly industrial area, regularly policed with a plain "Safety scamera van" at the end nearest to the M18, has a limit of 40mph.

Now, within a couple of miles, Leger Way, which is a SINGLE carriageway road ,running past a large school and residential properties on one side, albeit stood back from the road, clearly marked as an "Accident Black Site Area" , get this - is a 50mph limit!!!!

That was a very similar situation to where I live, only somebody must have mentioned it as they've now swapped the 2 limits over. Must have been an admin error.

Might I also add that the scamera van does a roaring trade, doing motorists for as little as 46 in a 40 !!!

and i should imagine they do as that is the threshold (10%+2) for 3 points and a fine

Nope..

The threshold was 48mph...it's now 47...

I guess it depends on how dangerous it is to do those kindda speeds in that area at that time, sometimes a 40 limit could be too high at certain times of day etc so doing 46 is dangerous. Speed limits are often set too high or too low(again it can depend on time of day etc). The areas where most people get caught is where it is clearly not dangerous to exceed the limit and are travelling faster, unfortunately it usually in is these areas that scams are used. Surely it would be better to catch 1 person in a day driving badly in a 30 rather than 100 who really aren't doing that much wrong?

Yes,..... Gary, I would propose if you were a fair thinking man that a variable (matrix board( type sign would be more applicable outside schools, operable by the proverbable "lollypop lady"? or time, if extra hrs are NOT req'd?

It's the unreasonable restriction for twenty two hours per day when 2 hrs is all that is really necessary that is:...........just plain crazy?

I passed an area recently where such a thing exists;
a 20mph zone is applicable during school hours and it reverts back to 40mph out of school hours..
