Has he gone nuts or is there more to this story?

DAVID Beckham has turned down the chance of a free Ferrari to add to his multi-million pound car collection.
The England skipper was offered the pick of any Ferrari worth up to £250,000 by the firm’s chairman Luca di Montezemolo during a reception at the Italian embassy in Madrid.
Real Madrid star Beckham, 29, told him: “I already have one back in England and haven’t thought of changing it.”
Becks has a fleet of 15 cars including two Ferraris, a Hummer 4x4 and two Bentleys.
Fellow Mardid star Raul also turned down one of the Italian supercars — saying he was happy with his Audi. The German motor giants sponsor Real.

I suspect there's more to it (advertising/sponsorship?)
Also shows up DB's mathematical prowess...

Why would Ferrari want to give away so much kit? Just for the free publicity by very occasional association?
Odd how money always goes to money.
Perhaps Beckham hopes for an Enzo rather than being stuck at 250k max value?

Er, right!

Not that I'm knocking Audi.
Hmm, I wouldn't swap my Quattro for a Ferrari - unless I could sell it straight away, buy the Quattro back and pocket the change...
You know, I'm not the jealous type - far from it.
But just occasionally doesn't it make you sick that a bunch of guys who can do nothing in life except kick a ball around a field, get given so much for doing it?
I mean fleets of the most desirable cars on earth, and very few of them are real enthusiasts - they just want yet another badge to add to their designer lifestyles.
Bitter? Moi? Well maybe just a bit...lol.

Remember there's no such thing as a free lunch. Perhaps the players would have to forsake other car endorsements or ownership of rival sports cars in order to receive the Ferrari, which would almost certainly be a loan rather than a gift.
It's all very well getting a Ferrari to drive around in, but if I had to turn down a £5m deal to drive, say, an Audi in order to drive said car, I would stick with my Vorsprung Durch Tecnik.
It makes a far better newspaper story to say that players were turning down free Ferraris, suggesting that a £250k asset is of little consequence to them.

Does Becks need somebody to wash the cars and ensure their engines are regularly exercised whilst he's busy "working"?
