Just bought a two year old S2 Elise (my first one...aahhhhh) - and love it, even at this time of year !!!

However, the mats, or to be more precise the fixing screws have come unstuck from the floor. Any idea what to use to stick them back with ?? Can I use any double sided tape for the sides, or will only certain things actually stick to the aluminium for longer than 5 minutes
I need to replace the mats anyway, so does anyone know if dealers would charge for re-fixing the screws if I bought new mats from them, or should I buy mats from somewhere else ??
(the bare aluminium to far too slippery with wet feet !

Roll on spring.......

Sorry to be thick but when you say carpet does this mean it covers the whole floor whereas the mats just cover part of it (particularly on the passenger side)?

Cheers

I know the bits you mean - both of mine on the driver's side have come off. They are bonded down with some kind of hard resin as it is totally solid and obviously quite britle. No idea how best to attach then though - probably a dab of no more nails or something else equally industrial. Just make sure you just stick the old resin stuff and not the aluminium - not sure how alu reacts to glues/bonds?

One of the online stores sell replacement fixings in chrome (instead of plastic) - not sure of they come with any fixing glue or tips?

Thanks for that - like you, I wasn't sure what does/doesn't react with the Alu., hence the question.
I don't want to b****r up the floor !!

What on-line store sold the replacements, was it Hangar 111 or someone like that ??

If I find out any info I'll let you know !

Found them: www.elise-shop.com/ - they are in the interior section complete with fixing suggestions.

I quite like the metal ones - I might replace mine with them.

Hi All,

This is a common problem with 'posh' elises.

Usual fix is plenty of sticky backed velcro liberally applied to the floor and mat respectively. Thus allowing removal of carpets for cleaning. (This is also how the side carpets are attached to the inner sill)

My car was 6 months old when I bought it and was a Lotus owned car and came complete with velcro as described.

It would appear that this could be described as the 'official' solution.

...Official fix....I suppose this comes under the 'lightness' part of the Lotus ethos

To be fair, if I wanted a 'perfect' interior (and a less involving drive)I'd have bought a Boxter or something similar - I'd much rather have an Elise with good 'ol fashioned 'character' !!

Maxf - thanks for the info !!!

Sketchy,

Don't get me wrong. It works fine

However, whatever the solution you (and your passengers) should always use the ali pad to assist ingress to / egress from the car. This avoids the carpet giving way under foot and causing potential damage to person and car.
