Finally got one.

'89 S2 in silver, the vehicle is in wonderful condition and I am am very happy with it.

As I have no mechanical knowledge of cars at all, just love driving them,I have just a couple of queries you guys may be able to advise on.

Firstly, My car is fitted with a full Janspeed stainless exhaust system it is de-catted and has a huge tail pipe. In addition it has an induction kit on. These make the car sound great but are they inhibiting or altering the cars performance in any detrimental way?

Secondly, is there anyway of repairing the illumination in the digital clock or is it a case of buying a new one?

Thirdly, The stitching on the leather steering wheel has started to frey slightly, is there an easy method of preventing its spread further.

Fourthly, my instruction manual states that I must not use snow chains with the vehicles current rims and tyres, people sell them for this size of wheel and tyre, therefore is there any reason why they should not be used?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

The only problem with replacing the bulb is actually getting to the clock. See here.

Snow chains - it depends on how much clearance there is around the wheel/tyre. You don't want any chance of the chain catching bodywork.

For the threads on the steering wheel, you could try putting drops of superglue or nail varnish on them to stop them fraying anymore.

Congrats on getting the car. I'm currently trying to get my first porsche sorted. I've only been looking for 5 months! I've found one I like but it's been having some work done and should be ready next week. Fingers crossed!

Congrats on your purchase.

You'll find this website very useful:

www.clarks-garage.com/

The clock illumination only works when the ignition is on, so don't do what I did & replace the bulb, and then spend ages fiddling with the wiring because it hadn't lit up, only to give up and get a nice surprise when I started the engine!!

Used steering wheels in reasonable nick often turn up on ebay.

The sports exhaust will probably allow the engine to rev slightly better and may add a little horsepower. General consensus is that the induction kits add little in the way of power for a lot of noise. They may also rob some power if they are drawing hot air from the engine compartment. This could easily be addressed with some cold air ducting if you lack the original airbox to return to standard.

Great choice of car! (I'm a Silver 89 S2 also)
FOr more info/advice the titanic list has been great for me. Well to be honest saved me a fortune ;-) (along with the PHers here too)

www.titanic.co.uk/944/

There's also a guide to clock bulb replacement
www.titanic.co.uk/FAQs/FAQ28_944DashTrimRemoval.html

but I think this one has been superseded by a better method via the glove box. I'm sure if you posted someone could describe it for you.
